As one comment on line put it. Let the S storm begin.

Hopefully council decides to stick with the legal, and not with the emotional hollarings of the minority in Edmonton. Good news, hopefully we see that land developed and we can improve the Kingsway area!

Exactly.

The city would set a dangerous precedent if they allowed Envision Edmonton to get their plebiscite even though they fell short of valid signatures and filed their petition a year too late.

Should they get what they petitioned for anyway just "because"? I don't think so.

City clerk has determined the petition is invalid becuase it is short on signatures and was filed a year too late.

It's all over but the crying. At least now EE can save face by saying it was the evil developers who are in bed with the city who killed the petition, instead of the voters shooting it down.

Time will tell what city council decides to do. They may just ask the question anyway to gauge the true response of the citizens.

I wish the citizens of Edmonton would take Envision Edmonton to court to recoup the $150,000 plus spent by the city to look into the petition even though Envision Edmonton knew they were offside from the start with the timing of the petition.

Its over Envision Edm........This was over before it began. What part of....It must be filed within 60 days did Envision not understand? A brilliant move by the city to let Allard and the brain washed to jump though all those hoops and have nothing in the end. Its just to bad that this cost you and I some dough. Bring in the Architects and bulldozers. I'm so sick and tired of this troglodyte.

S storm it will be.

If you think these guys are going to roll over, think again.

They have the resources, time, and connections to keep this going.

This isn't over until there is no airport left, the next step is supporting candidates that support the airport and petitioning future city councils to reverse the decision.

You don't get to choose what other people are passionate about.

You really don't know much about the history of Edmonton city councillors and candidates who have thrown their support behind the City Center Airport do you?

Here's a hint - they usually don't get re-elected.

I respect your vigor and enthusiasm from someone outside of the Chuck. It hits a nerve with most people in the know in Edmonton.

But it is reminiscent of the band on the Titanic....yup...we gotta chance but!?!?

Off the record......if this was my business......people would be fired!!

The bottom line is until there is no trace of the runways left, there will be people fighting to save the airport. Our place in the background for the foreseeable future will just have to be dealt with. It was originally going to be closed November 1st 1963 and we won then too.

Yeah, but these people are delusional and might consider not giving money to a Nigerian who has an investment for them.

Nope, just somebody who puts infrastructure ahead of the Al Czervik's of the world.

infrastructure such as LRT and roads come as a much higher priority to me than a secondary, underused airport, an airport that Edmontonians voted to not want to use.

The sooner we bulldoze the whole lot, the better.

I listened to the last 18 minutes of the discussion regarding the motion to add a question to the ballot on keeping the airport open for general aviation.

As I listened, I gained new found respect for the Edmonton city council and specifically the mayor who, with his comments, really put this issue to rest.

I agree with him that it is ironic that the petition was written by lawyers and that they clearly did not investigate the laws associated with collecting signatures on a timely basis.

I also agree with him that it is ironic that Envision Edmonton chose to put forward this issue at the most politically opportune time to apply the most political pressure on city council right before an election.

I am very pleased that city council had the balls to reject any further question, binding or not, on the ballot of the civic election and stand by their decision of July, 2009 to a phased closure of the city center airport.

Now the city can move on.

But this was obvious from the beginning? Yet no one address it? Why did the city not reject the petition based on the obvious? From the best leader we have seen
