Yeah, I understand the optimism with this being SSP and all, but let's not lose sight of reality.

I'll believe it when I see it.

This debate can only be settled with Costco hotdogs in 2040

TA is building a set of new towers next to Petronas but I doubt they are in the multi-billionaire status of huge Asian developers if I'm not mistaken?

https://clouthaus.com.my/

Also, FWIW if he built this thing when he bought the site you would probably have ended up with a few 20 storey towers.

Messing about with Google Earth this is what I ended up with as viewed from Queen Elisabeth Park using the city's view cone picture. From this viewpoint the south tower is almost inline with the west tower.

Is that correct? I think the front tower is a lot closer in height to the tallest one.

The shortest one is 239 metres. I assume the next one is in between so close to 277m?

Hotel 315 metres

Is it correct? Very far from for sure!!

I should have been more clear, shown are the 315m west tower and the 239m north tower. The 271m south tower isn’t shown as it’s directly in line with the west tower from this angle and I didn’t care to add it.

Also their schedule for Public Hearing, going off of the Broadway Safeway timeline (application May 6, 2024 - Public Hearing May 15, 2025), it wouldn't be outrageous to not see a Public Hearing until June or July 2026, at the earliest. Will be interesting to see how the 2026 election and general economy by that time plays into a Public Hearing.

I think he's talking about CACs or something along those lines.

DH said a public hearing in a year. Then two years of development permit application.

Does Trump/Shangri-La have aircraft navigational lights?

It would be interesting to see how they plan to have mechanical to setup to wash the windows with such an exposed top section of the tower.

Ya I don't believe him. Unless Gregory can get City staff to drop other projects and get his reviewed in less time than anything in the docket right now. Almost every project since 2023 application dates seems like it's been 1 year to Public Hearing

Looking at older photos and video footage I have, no it does not have any, as does most of downtown.

They have an issue with having money in hand. Little mountain has not been developed or paid for yet and then there is the Dunsmuir BS. How many failures do we give foreign developers that are doing nothing to improve Canada. This is not housing but a place to park foreign wealth so they should be forced to pay up front to cover the future costs. Just look at the Atmosphere lawsuits from a different developer but the city is left eating the costs

All 3 towers would be visible from that QE viewpoint due to the NE angle of the roads downtown.

"Failures of foreign developers"....lol

Where have you been hiding all this time for the past few decades?

Yaletown, Coal Harbour ,Paradox Hotel, Metrotown, Richmond Town Centre, Coquitlam Town Centre, Surrey Central, etc. etc. .....these places must be failures like the DTES.

Count ourselves lucky there is even a developer that is proposing such a large development in this day and age.

Downtown Vancouver's skyline soars with proposal for landmark towers up to 1,033 ft

Kenneth Chan

Western Canada could see its very first “supertall” skyscraper, envisioned for the core of downtown Vancouver.

Local developer Holborn Group has submitted a new formal rezoning application for a historically and economically significant redevelopment spanning two separate sites.

The proposal features four mixed-use towers, including a transformative landmark project of three skyscrapers in the Central Business District on the city block with the Hudson’s Bay parkade and low-rise office buildings and the vacant lot of the former Dunsmuir Hotel SRO. A fourth tower — a major social housing project next to Woodward’s on the southernmost edge of Gastown — is being offered as a 100 per cent gift to the City of Vancouver.

When big-city sized towers are finally coming to Vancouver, they really make the existing buildings look so tiny.

Looking forward to getting a new large indoor mall in downtown Vancouver that is similar to the TRX in Kuala Lumpur.

Not really. Would be nice to include that in the development.
They need to atone for that. Amen.

Little Mountain is under construction. No sure who you're referring to that Holborn has not paid. Do you mean they've yet to get sufficient pre-sales to start the rest of the condos?

Dunsmuir Hotel falling apart doesn't necessarily mean they are short on money. I'd argue it was a money saving decision. Thing was a money pit to renovate/ have occupied in the interim.

Legally I don't think you can prevent a landowner to rezone their property / apply for permits because they were slow to develop a piece of their land, let one building become derelict. The City will likely place Conditions for this site due to the end result of the Dunsmuir Hotel.

"Pay up front to cover the future costs", of what exactly, I don't understand. All "costs" are paid prior to Occupancy. Again, legally, I don't think you could ever require a developer of condos that the City deems "special" to pay "costs" earlier in the process than anyone else.

The Atmosphere project in Richmond appears to be folks suing eachother and I've yet to find how the City is paying for anything at this time if you could provide.
