Cleveland, it's just time (ongoing)

Great photo thread! It's a city I know surprinsingly know little about condisering it's less than 1000km away (~600 miles I guess) from where I live (Montreal). Guess i'll have to include it in one of my roadtrips!

i got a great aunt from montreal in cleveland, born and raised, you are welcome to chit chat her up when you visit. shes very chatty and you won’t get a word in edgewise though.

Very nice! I did a little roadtrip from Chicago to New York earlier this summer, it was a toss-up between spending time in Cleveland or Pittsburgh and the latter won out. But Cleveland definitely looks worth a detour.

Adding another batch for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Ohio City neighborhood - like other gentrifying areas in Cleveland, it used to just be a few pockets of development here and there. Over time, infill projects have to connected those dots.





Although their congregations have changed, the churches in the area remain cultural and visual anchors. In this case, St. Stephen on West 54th dating to 1881 - established by a German congregation, notable for the jaw dropping woodwork.

A good friend who also happens to be a talented artist restored the statues surrounding the center section:












Yes, there's a lot of photos of the skyline - helLO, we've been waiting over 30 years for a decently sized building to shake it up a little!







And from this morning - the temperatures and humidity dropped so it was a taste of Fall.




Allegedly, there are plans for a second tower for Sherwin Williams which would fill the gap on the left but things have been quiet lately.


Carter Road in the Flats - soon to be surrounded by apartment on both sides; this used to be an abandoned and derelict area, never thought I'd see the day.


And fishing in the Cuyahoga River wasn't something people would recommend, yet here we are, along the Towpath in the Flats.














The hillside here will eventually be a park, with amazing views of downtown, etc.


Views from the Red Line Greenway Trail, named after the RTA Red Line/heavy rail that the trail is next to.

there was PLENTY there in my lifetime, but it was all heavy duty industrial.

the nothing that came was actually a pleasant reprieve.

of course what is happening now is beyond all expectations in the best way.

How time flies - I started this thread after my position with my former employer was eliminated after 10+ years. Thankfully I've landed a new role (with a nice bump in pay, woohoo!) but of course that means less time to get out for photos - it's a tradeoff I'm happy to have.

It seems Cleveland's cranes have a migratory pattern - they're either mostly downtown or mostly near University Circle and the medical cluster. The cranes in the distance are in the process of building the new Neurological Institute.


Clark Field - a park that's been heavily remediated, now with a playground and baseball diamonds (with a photobomb by Key Tower).
























The former Baker Building, now a new hotel (as of this week)



Fun fact, the red brick building on the left houses a small experimental theater and also the site where my husband and I had our first date almost 20 years ago.

St. Ignatius High School - any other cities have this, the running joke of "how do you know someone went to St. Ignatius? Don't worry - they'll TELL you"











The West Side Market - a tourist icon and landmark aka my grocery store.



This replaced a strip plaza and was very (very!) briefly the tallest mass-timber construction building in the country.



An eight story hotel has been proposed for the parking lot in the distance:

That new Sherwin Williams HQ tower is absolutely perfect for the skyline in both design and placement... somehow it makes the skyline look twice as large all by itself.

It's a pretty damn good new tower. Cleveland needs about 4 or 5 more towers around this height to be the skyline the Metro truly deserves
