Great pictures! I've been meaning to go to Portland and visit a friend there, but haven't found time yet. One day!

Do you remember where that place with the beer and maps was? It looks like my kind of place.

How much was the ferry ride?

I love Portland so would highly recommend it. It's walkable and compact and the combination of history/urbanity in a beautiful natural setting is pretty incredible. Maybe just ideally during the May-October timeframe. The winters are long and pretty cold and can really bite if there's a stiff sea breeze.

That bar is called Maps on Market Street in the Old Port. It's a basement bar -- charming and cozy but definitely nothing fancy. It has just drinks and some homemade cakes for dessert. Definitely worth a stop though. If you go, I could give you some other recommendations.

The ferry ride was seven bucks! Definitely worth the trip even if just for a few hour trip.

Charming, gorgeous architecture, lovely waterside views, an overall awesome vibe - what's not to love? Thanks for sharing and greetings from the PNW Portland

Great shots -- thanks for posting! I moved here in 2008 from DC and I think it's the best small city in the USA. You covered a lot of ground but there is much more.
