The route needs to be flat with minimal hills. The flats are, well...flat.
Can the cambie bridge and the viaducts not be used to temporarily redirect traffic off pacific and expo boulevard?

Well, they did in 1997.

Too windy? I think Stanley Park wouldn't work most because you need somewhere to put grandstands. Like hell the parks board would let anyone cut a tree or two.

Race cars go around corners you know.

Formula E and John Furlong's desire to bring back the Olympics are great and all but I really think they should be done in a place like downtown Surrey and thus help put the place on the map and all. I love the ideas just think there's a great opportunity to leverage change and placing Surrey on a map in the eyes of the world. Like everyone's said there isn't much room in the city(Vancouver) and all.

You could set up bleachers on the parking lots around Deadman - not like they'll let people drive in right before the race anyway.

But I think they'd go for the '97 route. If they do it on a Sunday, it'll hardly be any more disruptive than fireworks night or a Canucks game.

I understand the options were limited due to NIMBY's and traffic calming, but that's still a lame route. Honestly, Langley or Surrey look like good candidates to do an event like this next time.

Glad I at least got to watch this one live. The scenes along Expo Blvd were epic.

What happens when NEFC comes in? Same general route, or somewhere new?

Route looks great to me, skytrain passing overhead, skyline shots, false creek right over the side. I'll be booking tickets for the weekend if this becomes a reality!

Likewise.

First year events with a bit of novelty to them will be well attended and fun to say that 'you were there'.

No way they get 56,000 attendance even if they gave tickets away. Only positive is that the City isn't paying for it.

If this was reddit it'd send myself a 'remindme! 1 year'. I bet this is very well attended. Checks all the Vancouver boxes:
- Outdoors
- 'World Class'
- Carbon sensitive

Definitely seems like a winner to me.

Edmonton got 200,052 people out to a CHAMP car race weekend in 2005... when many wondered if they would get 50,000.

It can be done.

Look at the other off track activities, interactive sideshow and boozing in the sun.

There will probably be a speed limit of 90 km/hr. Because safety in this country is numba 1!

And a few years later they couldn't get enough people in the doors and it left.

I don't think the idea in Van is to make it a regular thing downtown. It's to run for 3 years. I think it's more of a marketing event for the "E" series and post-pandemic Van tourism rather than being a stable race event / track / town.

Edmonton's ran I think for 7 years and the track is now a giant pond and residential neighbourhood.

Any particular reason you say that?

This could be positive as a limited engagement, in the right weather(!).

Who'd have thunk we could get so much interest in Rugby 7s? If it's a fun event, people will show up.

I attended the Toronto Indy twice and Vancouver once. I'm not a "car guy" but the energy/power/noise is impressive. I'm not sure how that will translate for electrics.

Don't underestimate the amount of car fans here, just look around the block. Plenty of F1 fans in town too. I'm confident tickets will sell pretty well, certainly enough to justify the limited run, and it has a good image around it too being the "next big thing" for cars.
