Not surprised to hear about the lack of maintenance on the two buildings left standing having issues. Lack of vision and planning is the norm for City administration.

Spring came and went on this project and nothing happened until just this past week with Southside Construction parking a construction trailer on the NW corner of the block.

Financial issues apparently have been a real barrier to moving the project forward for all the partners involved.

Bulldozer is now onsite moving soil between the two buildings that front on South street. Looks like early site prep work has started. The plans show a new building between the two heritage buildings and a one level underground parking garage covering the entire rest of the block over which the other buildings will be built above.

A caisson drilling machine has now been brought on site as excavator and bulldozer continues to move around dirt on the south side around the two heritage buildings. Looks like HCM has been contracted for the foundation work.

They have started drilling for the foundation pilings on the south side of block and have now peeled off the topsoil on the remainder of the block.

I have been helping a bit with trying to watch these old buildings with Indwell, and boy let me tell you, squatters are very, very persistent. I would lock up gates and find them open the very next day. Now that Southside is on site more frequently, this has decreased.

But what is going on right now is the start of the underground parking garage. Soon after, the abatement and stabalization of the War Memorial Hopsital will commence, and then the Health Services building. Next year, will be interior demo and gutting of the buildings to get them ready for their new purpose.

Latest update of the CMHC funding screwup.

Heads should be rolling at the CMHC and our local MP's should be fixing this ASAP.

They have now excavated the L1 level for the south building between the existing hospital buildings. appear to be well along now with footing concrete pours. They also appear to have started work on renovating the existing buildings with garbage shoots now installed for debris removal. Still no activity for the 11s Italian retirement home building across the street to the east. Wonder when they will get their funding together to start on that build?

They are doing abatement and stabalization of the Memorial Hospital, and then will move to the Medical building. Next year, they will start actual renovations, once the buildings are safe to work in. As of now, you need a hazmat suit and all that to even go inside.

They setup the tower crane for the middle building between the two old buildings. Of interest they set the tower base on the NE corner of the to be built centre building and the crane boom is extra long to cover the new building and the old building on the SE corner. I wonder if they plan to setup another tower crane on the NW side to cover the SW old building and the NW corner of the block?

They have made some progress with the foundation footing pours and have even got some of the L1 walls and posts now poured. Excavating for the north side of the block has also started.

Looks like this site will have multiple general contractors for the different buildings. They have put up a Concrete Forming (CF) sign on the fencing now with some additional office construction trailers.

Have made progress with pouring the south and west L1 perimeter walls on the central building. Excavation still underway in the NW corner of the block. The pace appears to be picking up with the crews working on the two heritage buildings remediation.

They have now setup a second tower crane to cover the west end of the block. They may have been doing a section of L1 floor slab concrete pour this morning with a concrete pump truck onsite and a number of concrete trucks.

They had excavator and crews digging up a hole on the south street side of the new centre building out to the roadway for what I suspect is the sewer and utilities connection. Still working on the L1 level of this new building and they don't appear to be finished in forming and pouring the L1 floor slab as of yet. If the weather cooperates in Feb we might see a good portion of the ground floor slab formed and poured and the first ground floor walls and posts being formed.
