It's not taller, in fact... you got fooled. This new 12-storey building is the exact same 38.0m height as the previous 10-storey version.

"In September 2020, through collaboration with City Planning and Heritage Staff, the Ward Councillor and Community representatives, and additional stakeholders, the proposal was substantially modified, in particular to change the proposed building massing from a 65-metre building height to a 38-metre building height that more effectively establishes a transition from the Catherine Street Corridor to the Museum of Nature lands.

In formalizing the design of the proposal within the established building envelope approved through the ZBLA, it was determined that a 12-storey high-rise building proves more viable than a 10-storey high-rise building and can be achieved within the established building envelope, maintaining the same overall massing. In rethinking the floor heights within the approved massing, it allowed for increased housing supply while still maintaining the required parking, amenity area, building height, and setback provisions approved through the original Zoning By-law Amendment."

I guess that was my confusion for going off the elevation package with a height includes the mechanical penthouse, at any rate that and moving the glass strip to the corner don't make it less bland but they do have a somewhat appreciated slimming effect.

Although it was bittersweet for staff to vacate our 100 Argyle Avenue office earlier this month, the entire organization is thrilled to be embarking on the site’s redevelopment journey to create ARTEFACT on Argyle - a 127-unit boutique residential tower.

Across the street from Ottawa’s historic Canadian Museum of Nature, ARTEFACT on Argyle, designed by RLA Architecture SA, will integrate existing heritage features with a modern urban design.

Nice I'm happy to see this one finally get starting adding decent density to the Elgin area.

Hope they keep all the brown-coloured brick on this one and don't do the ol'charcol grey switcharoo. It's not spectacular by any means but could be a nice addition to the area.

Planning rational for the colour was to come close to the Museum's colours, so it would be hard to switch at this point.

Just made me realize how my travel patterns haven't brought me down the 417 that way in a while. This structure being more than a foundation would be new to me.

Looking forward to the next handful of projects going up adjacent to the 417 in the downtown core area. Robinson will be a big one coming in from the east.
