Now known as " M Square"
From KPF's profile of the project
Quote:
In the US’s most sprawling city, M Square introduces a new, vertically-integrated, mixed-use paradigm that maximizes green space and creates an iconic destination on both the skyline and ground plane.
The two-tower complex in Houston’s Uptown offers an array of uses, enlivened by an active podium and landscaped central plaza. Organizing the office, residential, hospitality, and retail programs into distinct sections, the design creates synergistic, vertical neighborhoods, with each component enhanced by those surrounding it.
The taller of the two towers comprises hotel, rental apartments, and condominiums above a retail base. With balconies carved into the floorplates and green spaces distributed across the levels, the lush landscape of the plaza is carried through the podium into the tower. Elevated lobbies, public art displays, and a range of fitness and relaxation spaces, including outdoor pools, offer a unique hospitality experience while adding a luxurious element for the residences above.
The lower tower incorporates the neighboring parking structure—capped by the crystalline ballroom—between levels of retail at the base and flexible office space above. The chiseled balcony motif continues into this tower’s façade design, providing outdoor spaces for each level and visually unifying the development.
With ambitious sustainability targets of LEED and WELL certification, the project incorporates future-proofing into the parking structure, which is strategically designed to be repositioned into office space as the city’s needs change. Solar shading is integrated into the façade, and reduced footprints limit overall solar radiation and allow for more efficient water management systems on the site.
