The base is amazing. Everything else above that curvelinear cantilever should be sent back to the drawing board. Considering the London City cluster, this is lackluster in design compared to it's neighbors.

What's AOD?

I thought it was a supertall then realized AGL probably means Above Grade / Ground Level so maybe not.

This is cool though and probably taller than the shard by roof / occupied height.

I didn't realize just how ugly the London cluster looks...though I think it's partly because of how dense this cluster is, and the lack of breathing room for each building makes them read as a big blob. This design really doesn't help, for you can see an old church and the Cheese Grater are overpowered by this.

Really?? I rather love the grey blue cluster...but I especially love the red crown really standing out.

It's funny, Austin has a similar problem with blue glass, yet it somehow works so much better in London.

I like it a lot more than the older design! Imagine this rising alongside 55 Bishopsgate...

Do like the simplicity of the tower and the elaborate street level base. ; )

It’s the 80’s all over again (minus the base).

I'm not sure this is a supertall, I think the height is 295 meters and 310 maybe above sea level. (Referring to the title change).

Still a beast by Euro standards though. Kind of like 2WTC meets one of the Hudson Yards towers.

City of London’s tallest skyscraper approved

Cristina Lago
16.12.24

Quote:
On Friday (13 December), councillors accepted the revised proposals for 1 Undershaft almost 10 years after the initial plans were submitted. Of those who voted, 16 were in favour and seven against.

The 309.6m-high skyscraper was designed by architect Eric Parry for Singaporean developer Aroland Holdings with a design team including WSP and Aecom.

It will be built following the demolition of the existing 1960s Aviva Tower, between 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin) and the Leadenhall Building. 1 Undershaft will include 154,000 sq m for offices and 1,000 sq m of public space, including a children’s education area run in partnership with the London Museum.

It will also have a 2,500 sq m publicly accessible ‘podium garden’ 42m above street level with a structural glass floor.

Construction work is expected to start in late 2025 after the demolition of the Aviva Tower. The project is planned to last around five years.

So this is actually 294.6m tall based off of what the guys on SSC have said. It's just a bit of media number inflating and incompetence, because the 309.6m height is from sea level.

Interpretations can greatly differ, especially to whichever party benefits. Just like the antenna vs spire vs roof sagas…or even the Mauna Kea vs Mt Everest saga.

I don't think buildings are ever officially measured from sea level.

Western Europe still doesn't have a real supertall (occupied space north of 1k). Hopefully it will someday.

The Shard's highest floor is only 800 or so feet and I won't even gloss over the Varso Tower.

the base is so awkward and odd, yet its dramatic and i like it. the tower doesn’t register at all. maybe thats a good thing because honestly the base is what most people interact with so bravo there.
