Mohkínstsis — 1.6 million people at the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 400 high-rises, a 300-metre SE to NW climb, over 1000 kilometres of pathways, with 20% of the urban area as parkland.
I didn't even see the playground structure on the podium before the gigantic image.
Usually I frown on big pictures, but this really shows what is going on. I am however, not seeing any railings on the podium where the play structure is. That seems like a problem.

Congrats on a new tallest! To be honest I don't care much for the overall design (office portion looks solid), but it's a nice lofty height. A real skyline changer.
The podium looks good, and will fit nicely into the area district.

Damn nice building Edmonton!! About 750-780'!! With a moderate revision of the Pearl, (if it's built), this is going to be a great skyline in 6-8 years! Lookout Calgary!!
Terrific! Glad to see Edmonton joining the skyscraper big leagues. This is a momentous day for our friends up north
Overall the Arena District is going to be a huge boost to downtown Edmonton. Those renderings seem to suggest a few other 500'+ towers are in Edmontons future.
This will also surpass Telus Sky as the highest residential units outside Toronto, right? That's ok - a bit of friendly competition will help both cities achieve great things.
... Not to mention a bunch more ^in that range not far off.

Wooster: I don't think it looks Clunky at all. I do feel the upper tower portion could be better integrated with the lower/office portion.... If that's what you meant!
Expect refinement through the rezoning/DC2 process and Edmonton Design Committee review.

It's chunky for sure, but there's lots of good in it. It's certainly got a less flattering side. I like the view from the South in many respects, but not as much from the North. It is boxy and it is maybe predictable from a Stantec design view. The more I look at it, the more I can rationalize the balconies on the Northern edge and the massing with respect to the core of buildings in downtown Edmonton. I don't like how even the masses are between residential and commercial and I don't like the idea of a couple more floors residential. I think it needs a few more commercial.
It doesn't scream sexy at me, but it's brawny and semi-industrial and really says quite a bit contextually.
I'd give it a six or seven overall.

So most are in agreement, the building needs to be re-designed to look a bit more slender and not so boxy, which I hope they work on. Imo the tower on the left on the pic looks quite nice.
