^ Well, I think with the huge high-rise boom that Miami had, people are naturally going to want and expect more now. If this one was proposed 7 years ago, I'm sure the reaction would be more positive.

Impact or not, it's still a dull (yet attractive) building in a city full of dull (yet attractive) skyscrapers. Miami really needs to step it's design up a few notches. Steal something from Melbourne because who wouldn't want to see something like this in Miami?

^ I actually don't like any of those Melbourne proposals AT ALL.

Miami is at the whim of real estate developers as far as "design" goes right now. When residential towers are the only buildings going up, innovative design takes a back seat. They are building "bang for their buck". Design is determined by the market in Miami. When you consider the ridiculous amount of major development that happened in Miami from around 2005 to 2010, there was not a single great piece of architecture added to the skyline -- and that's a shame. Miami's best "new" skyscrapers, office and residential, were built in the 1980s and 90s.

I've actually always been partial to that three tower complex designed by Architecnia,or whatever their names is. The towers look like three cubes stacked on top of each other. Very catching.

^ It will actually become the focal point for that perspective, being that it'll be smack in the middle, substantially taller than the clutch of towers to either side. It will be, from that perspective, a noticeable new tallest.

How many cities out there wish they could be getting 800ft generic condo towers right now though?

I've got no problems with it. That it'll be the new tallest is just an accident of timing. If it does end up at that height, it will be outdone before the decade is out.

Every city save New York and Chicago would love to be getting this tower. It's only kinda boring because it's in Miami

The problem is developer Tibor Hollo is used to building towers that sit on top of parking podiums. The tower it self isn't bad but the base is blase' to say the least. This is what the market dictates though since the buyers will be wealthy & have cars even though mass transit is literally at their feet with a Metromover station nearby. These buyers are not going to want to park their Benz or BMWs on the street even though it's a relatively safe neighborhood.

PS: I just wish Hollo would begin One Bayfront Plaza already instead of wasting his time building his millionth condo tower!

This looks much more contemporary than the previous rendering. Still, it's just a nice design that has been done to death. Miami needs to think higher up in terms of skyscraper design.
