okayyou in gay paree, C'EST FORMIDABLE. lots of camera tomfoolery here, i love it. the long exposure on the lawn where someone's flash went off, leaving the ghostly figures of the two girls, that's sick. your usual pattern play and color studies are at their height here too. the paint palette, the girl in the red jacket just beneath it, the multi-colored tiled fountain, the long exposure sling shot ride, and this one ...

also, that saxophonist is doing it wrong.

Paris + Okay you =

Love the oranges of the illuminated buildings mixed with the blues in the twilight shots.

Freakin' wicked! One of (if not the absolute) the best Paris photo threads I've seen on SSP.

I've run out of nice things to say about your photography skills needless to say i am a big fan.I would rather chew my own arm off than visit any major European city at the height of the tourist season , looks like you had a grand time regardless

Damn. Nothing more must be said. Damn.

Though I must say, Parisian food was heavenly for me, especially after traveling there from London.

KOTH - you should see the subway trains leaving Gare de Norde. I thought I was in Narobi.

Chitown - Don't feel like giving up. It took me a long time to figure out what I was doing with the camera. Practice, practice, practice.

Mosquet - The gear helps but knowing how to compose and shoot what you like is what I feel makes the image. I had much of the same gear in my earlier threads and I don't feel the results are close, my older shots being much worse.

Lipani - That first shot, without the FRANCE, got a shout out on the flickr blog.

gio - Paris was really the first city where I broke out the tripod properly. That saxaphonist is part of a group that was playing at La Defense jazz fest. They were all making an absurd amount of racket, at least to my boorish American ears. They were all playing their instruments in ways which they were never designed to be played to some post-post modern jazz tune. The audience lapped it up.

fern - The crowds were terrible but it was worth the visit. I think I'll go back in the spring or fall next time I visit.

Thanks to everyone else for all the comments.

I know. That's about what I meant by 'and knew how to use them', that was the essential part of my comment.
Still ignorant of photography but I know people call it an art, and I know what that means.

Put your soul into your thing in addition to your skills, even when you feel harsh, moody or ugly, it's just your thing, deserving since you've got skills to express it.
And don't forget Italy/southern France for your next visit!
Cheers.

Well this thread just blew me away!!!

I can't help but think some of the people would be floored if they saw how good of a picture a stranger has taken of them...ex. the girls jumping for a someone else's camera, or the girl near the first with the red/pink/musturd colours (have to admit, I paused at that one for a bit), the kids completely unaware at the wall, the 3 guys with the green pants, 2 girls with blue/pink hair, many more.
Amazing pictures!!!

Fabulous pics of Paris btw !
Yes but they are not passed out from drinking a bottle of red wine. I think that was the point.

These are fantastic pics, BTW. I LOVE Paris, I just wish there were a few less billion tourists whenever I'm there! Still probably my favorite place to visit, and I never have a bad meal.
One of my earliest memories of Paris was seeing a dead junkie with a needle hanging out of his arm in the Metro (this was the early '90s). But it's a great city. I have had a bad meal unfortunately, because I was starving and ate at a place right by the Eiffel Tower.

I'll be there for a couple days this summer (first time in almost 4 years that won't be for work), and I'm loving this blog for planning in itinerary:

After viewing several of your Eastern European threads... the multiculturalism of Western Europe is striking in this photo collection.
