True. Forgot about that. So the brewhouse didnt actually brew anything? Alright, that is dumb. But if it weren't for that, I wouldn't have an issue with 0 alcohol.

I was down there New Years Eve.....surprising how few others were there. The crowds were much larger the year before when it was -20, go figure.

It may have had something to do with the talk of canceling fireworks because of wind.

The square felt really closed off with the size of these tents. The wife, kids, and family really prefer the more open "less is more" approach.

I was there with my daughter on the 1st. Other than the two of us, there were maby 8 others, and about 25 staff. I don't want to judge it at this point as it is new and needs to be tested the first few years to determine what works, what doesn't and what lessons can be learned.
If it is a celebration of winter, why are they converting the cental outdoor square into indoor spaces? The central square should be a place for outdoor winter activities and celebrations with indoor places on the edges.

don't forget to go check out the fifth annual Deep Freeze festival on 118th ave this weekend! This year should be better than ever, and as Edmonton's up & coming artist's district you'll find a very eclectic and creative atmosphere!

^concur.

"If it is a celebration of winter, why are they converting the cental outdoor square into indoor spaces?"

cause it is too cold out

I had inquired about the polar brewhouse and if, like the grey cup, they would have an outdoor patio... no dice, maybe next year.

Its one thing to go there and hang out for an hour. But good luck attracting volunteers if it means they have to sit outside for 6 hours.

That's what I hope to see.

I also hope next year that the tents are set up like the big tent was at the Grey Cup - with entrances on one end, exits at the other, and people at the door, only letting a manageable number of attendees in at a time.

Hit up the Polar Brewhaus Friday night with some co-workers. Loved the design and intricate structure, but the execution inside was a MISS.

-plywood clad walls? really?
-chunky soup?
-Bud/Kok/Cdn - A swing and a miss... once again we fail to take advantage of this and have an operator who is committed to local brews.
-no patio

I did like the Tv's and lighting, although the sequences should be slowed down.

More than a few people walked in, looked around from the entrance and left... for it was not all that intriguing and didnt have enough of an appeal IMO.

The heated washrooms just outside were welcomed.

Too bad but let’s hope this is the learning period and next year we see better finishing. That and maybe we could push the keep it local idea. Alley Cat and Yellowhead could come up with some signature beers. “Frostbite Pale Ale” “Frozen Noise Amber” Call the place the Frozen Pole Wet Tongue Pub,
You could also have an Ice Bar.

^exactly.

Feedback from Giuseppe was that funding was a major issue as was the 'build it and they may come' issue... bigger and better next year, even if some rather basic mistakes if you asked me.

Seriously off-topic, but hey it's Monday.

OK, I admit that "eisbaer" means polar bear, but the play on words is a nice segue to enjoying this biscuit:

Hilarious take on the original song.
