I hope that's not a blank wall on the west side.

Here's some pix from the open house tonight. They're looking at construction sometime in 2013 if all approvals are in place.
The Canadian HQ is here in Vancouver but the developer is from Hong Kong. This is their largest project to date so far. They've been managing properties for 25 years so they're not new to the city.

Too fussy. The obsession with setbacks, PoMo grids, and multiple corners to reduce the perception of mass is well past the point of dimishing returns.

Thanks for the pix Built Form.

Who is the architect? I couldn't imagine a more boring looking tower!

Sorry I can't remember the architects name but he's with Merrick Architecture. By the way when did Merrick become Merrick Architecture-Borowski Sakumoto Fligg Ltd.? Anyway he's the same man who did the Elan on Seymour. It is VERY similar, especially the 2 story grids facing Howe. And yes he's also considering adding colour to the design to help it stand out.

Make that three so far who don't go for it. Another bland, busy "Vancouver Special" (as they used to call those stucco duplexes in the eastern & southern suburbs.)

Hey, plunk it down out there somewhere. It's more suburban-looking than downtown, especially on finance-oriented Howe Street.

Exactly what Leftcoaster said. I actually find it pretty good with the exception of the curved entryway which just doesn't work in my opinion, would prefer to see that corner squared off, the rest of the tower seems quite fitting.

I find it much better than a typical "Vancouver Special" condo tower - it has a chunky 4 story-streetwall (with the obligatory townhomes at least located above 2 levels of commercial) and the setback design is actually quite interesting. This isn't another Salt or Maddox!

Since when is 41-storeys considered infill in Vancouver? Lol. This isn't Toronto!

But yeah, the tower will probably turn out alright. Perhaps with the developer coming from Asia they won't cheap out on the exterior finishes like some of the Van developers are.

It looks like Elan and Capitol produced a lovechild.

As long as they go easy on the light coloured spandrels than this could turn out good.

I'd say the tower looks fine, but the townhouse roofs look like they're straight out of the late 90's. Looks like we'll be getting more of the baby blue spandrel a la Capitol as well.

What if that blue is fritted glass and not spandrel? I doubt it but who knows. If this is a new developer that hasn't produced anything in Vancouver yet then there still is a shot that crap won't be the precedent set.

Thanks for posting.

The podium corner does look odd.

The protruding grids on Howe will match the one on Salt, and aspects (curves and spandrel colour) remind me of L'Atelier on Robson.

OK, OK, excuse me I judged too hastily. This one's ok, but seems to have an issue with its curves; they seem somehow faltering. If there was a snthesized overall curve (or such) design for this one, I think it would have been more visually attractive.

This is on the agenda on Tue Mar 27th City Council meeting. It may be moving ahead based on what council says.
