i never knew that jesus had a a giant tower crane boom sticking out of his right armpit. you'd think that's the kind of thing you'd learn about after 13 years of catholic schooling, but no.

Well...Arabic facial features aren't that distinguishable from Caucasian when everything is monochrome, assuming you don't go overboard with the Hollywood plastic surgery nose and plucked eye brows. It would probably throw people if they made him stocky (because he's cited in The Book as not being physically remarkable, so no tall Jesus) with short, likely curly hair (since you just didn't do long hair on men at that time).

I have seen pictures of Jesus where he is black. I guess he looks like however you imagine him to be. I don't think that is the point. This statue is an expression of faith. Gotta get to Poland someday. All those countries around Poland are turning Atheist but Poland is still Catholic. I will be sure to pay respects to this statue.

On one hand, I support a community coming together like that to express their unified faith in Jesus Christ. On the other, it's kitch like this that is one of the reasons why Christianity isn't taken as seriously as in the past. Back then, people built beautiful stone cathedrals to honor Lord God. Now they build stuff like Touchdown Jesus.

what are you two talking about. many people take him very seriously. just because he isn't taken seriously in these threads is of no importance to the over all Christian movement, which is huge and by far the largest movement of any kind in the world.

Lol! That hadn't even crossed my mind.

BTW, for all those trying to make this some kind of religious debate for support of this thing, I'm not sure someone as humble as Jesus is potrayed to have been would like having a 50-meter statue lording over the landscape. Not only is the whole premise of the statue tacky, but it's practically right up there on the line of idolatry. Anyone got a Jesus head-smacking emoticon or picture with him in it with "No, no, no. You're not doing it right/Not this sh%t, again"?
