That's interesting, I never would have thought of animation studios for the house at Queen and Main. It is definitely larger than your average mansion, but I can't picture it accomodating close to 100 employees.

[Edit: I see now that there is a separate thread for this project...]

The owners of the Bldg are lobbying hard for a Resto. There was a Starbucks rumour which was immediately squashed back in March.

Pretty good demo reel. Hadn't heard of them before but there's a lot of stuff I recognized in the demo.

Just FYI, the Animators have started moving their stuff in.

There is now one large 2nd floor unit and two streetfront units left.

This Spring 2012, 118 James N will be converted to AGH space: contemporary retail and  performance space. New cultural hub.

Just to clarify - that's the north ground floor unit of 118 James North that the AGH is taking over for their Design Annex (not the whole bldg). The owners are still hoping to attract a restaurant / cafe for the south side (closer to the Tivoli).

Would have been nicer to have some private dollars move in there, but at least the AGH fits the area nicely and could have a positive impact on our growing artistic hub.

The AGH is 1/3 public-funded. By comparison, the freshly unhoarded Hamilton Artists Inc is about 2/3 public-funded.

The space is planned to be divided into two sections - the section facing onto James Street North will be geared toward high design -- furniture, lighting, artwork and jewelry with an emphasis on contemporary and Canadian pieces -- and will be an extension of the Shop at AGH and the Gallery's Art Rental and Sales. The back half of this space will be a multi-purpose event and programming outlet, used in much the same way as the Tanenbaum Pavilion at the AGH. The space will retain some of its raw loft aesthetic but get enough attention to finishing details and amenities/facilities that it can be incorporated into the AGH's wedding and event services portfolio as well as AGH programming activities such as concerts, films and contemporary art exhibitions. It'll doubtless give the AGH a little more street-level visibility and add a more polished element to the neighbourhood.

Did anyone get snapshots of the concept floor layouts at last night's event?

AGH To Open New Downtown Digs [Kathy Renwald, OpenFile Hamilton, Aug 26, 2011]

"The idea to come down to street level with the riff raff and hoi polloi of North Hamilton originated not among the masterpieces at the AGH, but in the funky thinkubator that is sandwiched between Miller Shoes and the amusement park remains of the Tivoli Theatre. Bill Curran, Doug McKerlie and Tim Potocic bought the old Dominion building, and with aw shucks gusto redid the place and then went hunting for tenants."

The Art Gallery has some signage up on the ground floor now. 'Future Home of Design Annex, Spring/Summer 2012'.

That is nice, too bad it's not private funds, though.

The tenant (AGH) may not be private, but the building owners are. With 118 James almost fully rented, hopefully they'll move onto their next project downtown soon!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwsome! Is the AGH still on course to move in?

How about the space beside this building ~ 126-128 James N? I heard recently that the previous tenants had moved but I haven't heard any news on who's taken their place. It's a great space, too. Apparently it's an old Foresters Hall. Some great history there.

Anyway, thanks for the twat. Oooops...I mean tweet.
