The AGH is 1/3 public-funded. By comparison, the freshly unhoarded Hamilton Artists Inc is about 2/3 public-funded.
The space is planned to be divided into two sections - the section facing onto James Street North will be geared toward high design -- furniture, lighting, artwork and jewelry with an emphasis on contemporary and Canadian pieces -- and will be an extension of the Shop at AGH and the Gallery's Art Rental and Sales. The back half of this space will be a multi-purpose event and programming outlet, used in much the same way as the Tanenbaum Pavilion at the AGH. The space will retain some of its raw loft aesthetic but get enough attention to finishing details and amenities/facilities that it can be incorporated into the AGH's wedding and event services portfolio as well as AGH programming activities such as concerts, films and contemporary art exhibitions. It'll doubtless give the AGH a little more street-level visibility and add a more polished element to the neighbourhood.
Did anyone get snapshots of the concept floor layouts at last night's event?
