Good to see Boston on here!

The Custom House was the first "sky scraper" in Boston.

Boston's High Spine (Mid-town looking area) exists only because there weren't any buildings of historic significance here. Most of the modern high rises were built atop giant rail yards that crossed here from Albany and NY in a marsh. This is also why the city could place the Mass Pike there, it followed the path of the original RR. Not too long ago (mid 20th Century) the Prudential Ctr complex was built atop massive rail yards that separated the historic Back Bay from the historic South End. Great project that united the neighborhoods together and was a huge part of the continued success of the city and opened up large tracts of land for further development.

Awesome tour of a great an often overlooked American city. These photos remind how me of how long it has been since I last stopped through and why I need to go back.

Good to see that the weather cooperated with you....unlike my most recent experience there (which coincided with the Boston Marathon of April 2007 - the one that famous took place underwater, and was nearly flat-out canceled). Srsly.

Good job covering a large portion of the city. If you're ever there again I would suggest going to the South End and Allston/Brighton. Brookline and Somerville (especially the squares near the border of Cambridge - Inman, Davis, Union, etc.) are also nice to visit if you're interested in more of a relaxed, bohemian vibe.

What fantastic photos. I've never been in Boston, and haven't seen more of it than a shot of the skyline. It really looks like a lively place.

Fantastic tour!

If I had to live on the East Coast, Boston (after the NYC/DC area perhaps) would be my first choice.
