I don't think anyone will try to grab torch away from the runner. After all, it is basically a mace. That's on fire!

It couldn't hurt to have the biathalon team accompany the torch on those awesome roller skis they train with in the off season.

They are complete idiots to tackle or struggle with the person holding a large open flame. And if by chance their clothes catch on fire, they will blame the torchbearer and organizers for not telling them that fire is dangerous. And if the torchbearer, a security runner, or someone in the public gets hurt, these "protesters" will blame the torchbearer and organizers. These people also called the Spirit Train 2010 performances a "protest zone" and dared to even fight with the spectators.

I'm not suggesting they will try and grab the torch, just get themselves on TV somehow. Typical idiots.

Protestors in London, Paris, and San Fran actually tried to grab the torch from the torch bearer during the Beijing Torch Relay. One of the torch bearers was a Paralympian in a wheelchair.

Their message backfired in China as all of the torchbearers came home with celebrity/hero status as HK and Mainland media spread the word.

I can't wait for one of these anti-2010 protestors become overzealous and completely throws their movement into a loop. At the same time, I hope the officials/authorities keep a light hand so as to not give the protestors credence in villifying the police or the Games.

That was a completely different situation.. the protests were more about China's terrible human rights record than the Olympics in general.

Motivation aside (who cares?), I imagine they might want to be using the same tactics? I mean, I hope so (but not really) because it sure would put a worse light onto the protesters.

Nice, attacking them just because they are security officials. That's intelligent.

I think it would be kinda interesting to see if protesters are dumb enough to try assaulting armed security personnel.

“The Olympics offer no long-term impact to the lives of people in B.C.”
If they truly believe that, why are they protesting?

LOL CTV is promoting this as the "excitement and drama of the Olympic torch relay".

The only thing that could inject excitement and drama into something as riveting as watching paint dry would be protestors actually getting anywhere near the relay.
