Yes, there is a costume place on Ottawa. Boo Costumes on Main closed about 6 months ago.

Pastime at 91 John Street South sells blank cards by a local artist Roger Ferreira (and some by his sons). They feature reproductions of original paintings of historical Hamilton, and a few local nature and some from his native Tobago.

There are also a couple of vintage postcards of the Board of Education Building for sale for only $1. I bought 2 of the 5 available, and the last one of City Hall so I have something pre-reno. The postcard of the Pigott building is not for sale. It was for sale until my wife said you shouldn't sell this one.........drat.

This is a place I will certainly visit if I get the chance.

A friend of mine is involved in running Pastime. For anyone who doesn't know, this is the former location of Edwin Pass watchmakers, the oldest storefront in Hamilton. When the 3rd generation Edwin Pass finally closed up shop, the new owners made sure to keep it special. Definitely worth a visit.

Trudged over to Steel City Surplus. Used to do LED bulbs, don't anymore, getting out of electricals. DVDs $16.99 for 50. Am glad I bought those at Summit now!

The search for LED bulbs continues.

Where's a good place downtown to pick up a black or dark grey baseball cap without a giant logo on it? I don't mind a minimal nike swoosh or puma cat or something like that.

Try Core Sports in Jackson Square. It's the side aisle with Tim Hortons on the corner, basically across from the new tea shop.

Cool stuff, will look there, thanks!

Got one from there, I'm thinking $40 is a little pricey for a cap, but needs must. There are two places on King walking in from Wellington towards James, but both are very much rapper style caps, not really for me.

Woodworking Router needed

I thought this was the appropriate thread for my current search as well. I need a basic woodworking router. Used or new, 10-15 Amps, about 2 HP. The brand doesn't matter, as long as it is in good working order.

I am looking for a better deal than the box stores offer, because I will only use it occasionally, and my projects don't require great precision. My budget is no more than $40-50. If anyone has one for sale or knows a pawn shop that carries power tools in lower Hamilton, that would be great! Thanks in advance.

Don't know if you're still looking, Jon, but I saw CSA-approved steel-toe boots at the Main/Victoria Canadian Tire today - and they're open till 9.

I found my shoes at Shoe Point in Jackson Square. Crystal Shoes right beside National at King and James, to my surprise was a legitimate shoe store and did carry steel toes but not what I needed.

My intention was to find something downtown, independent, non-mall, non-box. I think I managed about half of those objectives.

Canadian Tire as far as I'm concerned is just another big box store. Their downtown location, while it lasts, is convenient enough but their 'new format', which all stores will eventually become, is the complete antithesis of all urban decency. Thus, I would encourge use of the alternatives whenever possible. But thanks emge, I appreciate the mention.

I went into Shoe Point for the first time the other day since I thought I saw Puma runners. Unfortunately, they were fake ones with "Air" written on them. Seriously? lol

Glad you found your shoes though.

If anyone sees anything like this:

http://www.caraselledirect.com/_/gre...ategoryFrom=25

Please let me know. Having two cats and currently residing with a third, I'm forever covered in cat hair.

I used to have one of these in the UK and it's awesome (left it behind by accident, duh). I've only ever seen the peel off sticky rollers here so far.

The 'new' Canadian Tire format has had a couple of very successful urban adaptations in Toronto (Yonge and Church, Bay and Dundas), so I wouldn't just summarily dismiss them as unfriendly in the urban context. Besides, I feel good bringing my business to a successful Canadian-owned business.

I know I have seen one of these - thinking it may have been at PetSmart.

Didn't CT start in this city too?
