Yeah, great 'pub' there, and great customer interaction by the owner.

So I tore into him for completely killing our party (guys started leaving after this), paid the bill, and then told him in not so many words to go have sex with himself.

That was 3 years ago and I haven't been back. I'm very glad that since then the Heart & Crown opened just up the street as I'm sure it has negatively impacted his business. He deserves it ...

WTF were you guys drinking or eating to rack up a bill of over $80/person.

I find that strange since I was there in the summer of 2006 on a hot evening when a stretch hummer pulled up and out piled about 10 yahoos who looked like they didn't get out much and were out to get drunk and disorderly ASAP. The staff didn't seem to care about these guys who were being very loud inside the pub.

Here is the latest beer menu. They even have Brador which I don't believe can be found at any other bar in Ottawa.

My fear for Pub Italia is that it will turn out like the Rotterdam Pub in Toronto which went overboard in its beer menu.

Mostly food. Absurd amounts of food. A lot of those beers don't come cheap either. The Trappist variety, for example, range from $10-12 each. Add it all up, insert a substantial tip (I worked in the food/beverage industry for many years during my youth and generally over-tip as a result), and there's your bill.

I never had any problem with the staff itself ... I remain friends with several to this day. My problem was with the way the owner treated us.

Anyway, life goes on ... but I must admit the one thing I occasionally miss from that place is a nice Westmalle Triple.

I must be playing footie with the wrong group. Pitchers of Creemore or Keith's is as exotic as they get and they may have a plate of natchos or salad with balsamic vinegar.

There's a bar in Hintonburg where the 'pint' is a gigantic bottle of Canadian served by an old guy with a long white beard. Can't remember the name of it (with good reason), but it's a fine establishment.

The owner of Monkey Joes at Merivale/Carling (Westgate) was a bit of a jerk to my wife and I the first time we went there. We weren't greeted at the door, so we grabbed our own menu's and were about to seat ourselves. The owner (whom failed to let us know he was part of the staff) came upto us, asked if he could help us, as he took our menu's away from us. We should've left right then and there, but my wife was really hungry, and we didn't feel like going looking for food elsewhere. Luckily for that place, their food portions are huge for the price paid, some of it tastes pretty good, and the serving staff are very nice too. The owner was even a hard-azz to our server, so we gave her a nice tip.

I like the Manx on Elgin, great pub. Good somewhat 'private' room for a group of friends with your own little access to the bar tender.

I like the cask conditioned ale at the Clocktower Brew Pub and anyplace that serves Beau's.

I 've always been meaning to try that place, but I figured it might be like a Montana's or Kelsey's with a simian theme. Thanks for the heads up on the owner... I would've smacked him with the menu.

Clocktower is the only true brew pub I'm aware of, but there is also Beau's brewery in Vankleek Hill, which is available at several local pubs and bars.

I'm still pretty new to Ottawa, but I figured I'd give my 2-cents since I love me some Pubs.

I live in the Market, but for the most part, the place is pretty annoying on lots of nights, if you're looking for a quiet pub atmosphere. Aulde Dubliner is my favorite by far, so far. Helps that they have a projection screen upstairs for hockey games, and I've heard some good live music there on a Friday.

I haven't been anywhere in the Irish Village because they're almost always packed when I walk by and think of it.

I was in Chez Lucien on St. Paddy's day, but naturally, it was quite busy, so we didn't stay more than 2 minutes. My landlord recommended the place for it's burgers, though, so I plan on going back.

I've been to the Royal Oak on Bank St, the one just south of Mondrian, and enjoyed it there.

I really liked D'Arcy McGees, but it might have helped that it was a quiet Sunday, and not a weekday, where I'd imagine it probably gets a lot busier.

I'm looking forward to getting to the Clocktower, as you guys keep saying good things about it. I've driven past it a few times and really wanted to go in.

A place I absolutely love in Montreal is Les 3 Brasseurs. I don't know if it's a big chain, and it's cliche of me to like it or anything, but I've always had a great time there, and their Blanche is fantastic.

Oh, and the last place that I really like, is New Edinburgh, mostly because my girlfriend and I just love to play Buzztime Trivia, and it's the closest (and only) place we've found that has it.

Back in Thunder Bay, we used to spend hours and hours playing at Boston Pizza (which is nowhere near as cool here), where we knew all the staff, and servers, etc. We'd walk in, and our drinks would be on the bar by the time we got there, basically. I've been trying to find a place like that here, where I could become a 'regular' and get to know the bartenders a bit better, etc, but everywhere I go has just been either way too packed, or just not a place I'd go back 100 times per year. Dunno, I'm a bit picky. Maybe we'll grow a repore with the New Eddy guys.

Does anyone else have any reviews of any of the other pubs in the Market?
