small update: This project is 70% sold but rate of sales have reduced lately. They have begun preparing the Homer building and excavation of the site is set to begin mid-November. source was someone from the sales centre.

well the other day a truck came and delivered whole bunch of jersey barriers probably will be used to barricade the parking lot, If they felt that the project was going to be canceled they wouldnt have delivered them. So i'll take that as good news for now.

The Beasley project in downtown Vancouver offers discount to buyers

Vancouver Sun - March 17, 2009 11:44 AM

Amacon, the Vancouver developer building The Beasley project downtown, is the latest builder offering discounts to buyers.

Amacon senior vice-president Bob Cabral said the company is cutting prices by a minimum of 22 per cent, from $100,000 to over $250,000 per unit, because of reduced construction costs.

"We are in a very different market than a year ago; when we negotiated our construction costs and realized the savings we made, we were happy to pass on that savings," Cabral said.

Cabral added that Amacon views this sale as a unique case that won't necessarily influence the overall market.

Cameron McNeil, president of MAC Marketing Solutions, which is handling the sales of Amacom's remaining units in the Beasley, said there are too few apartments left and such limited supply of units in development he doesn't believe the reductions will set any new benchmarks for downtown pricing.

Don't you wonder, though, if they are offering those discounts to those people who have already signed a fixed-price contract with them? They say they are "pleased to pass the discount on" since everything is costing them less, but I'll bet you a dollar they are not telling that story to those who signed contracts.

Surprise, surprise... yes Amacon is also offering the same discount to existing pre-purchasers, lowering their respective fixed-prices.
