Sounds like the CEO of Mutual of Omaha is hemming and hawing on whether this will be a new tallest ? Maybe he’s just being coy ?

Which is awful since their designs are the definition of bland and generic with blah materials. They also look so dated, like they could have been built in 2003. Not very trophy-like. Not what the Midwest needs.

Although the Cleveland one is decent. River point in Chicago is another exception but still pretty meh.

I still really like 1180 Peachtree (completed in 2006). There wasn't much like it (with the fins) when it was built.

While Pickard Chilton tends to play it somewhat safe and conservative with their office tower designs, I'm generally still a fan of their major towers in the Midwest.

And the design for this Omaha tower looks promising too, IMO.

I love it! Packard Chilton never always stays classy and never fails to please. This will definitely redefine and upgrade another stagnant skyline. OKC was a perfect example.

There's a comment on page 1 saying the architect is HOK.

^ read the very next post underneath the one that mentioned HOK.

HOK apparently worked on some space needs study for Mutual of Omaha, but the design architect for this proposal is Pickard Chilton.

That rendering screams Pickard Chilton (which, incidentally, is also mentioned in the linked press release. FWIW, the mention of HOK was not as the architect, but in connection with a "study to assess its space needs and develop a compelling vision of the future workplace."

A couple paragraphs later it says: "In addition to developer Lanoha Real Estate Co., Mutual is working with a design team that includes Kendall/Heaton Associates of Houston, Picard Chilton of New Haven, Conn., and Omaha’s Alvine Engineering. "

A new rendering angle from the riverfront was included in the city planning board documents.

this would certainly fall into the "skyline redefining" category.

What? I could not imagine a better centerpiece tower for a small city skyline than Devon. It's a double-whammy because it not only works on the skyline level, but the ground floor avoids the usual parking podium shit and really opens up to Myriad Gardens with a plaza and a wall of active windows fronting the park.

This Omaha tower is a little more normative with a rectangular floorplate instead of triangular, but it strikes the right balance between corporate conservatism and flair.

Wow that's really lovely. It's a bit...'thick', but still a sharp looking tower.

Ya....it's pretty massive. That's going to sit on land that's probably 60 feet or so lower than the bank building. I hope it gets built

The final floor count of 44 and 677 feet tall was announced with some fresh renderings. This should break ground in early 2023.

Mutual of Omaha tower will rise as tallest building on city skyline

Quote:
There will be a new king of the Omaha skyline, and it will bear the lion logo of Mutual of Omaha.

Mutual’s new headquarters in the heart of downtown will become the city’s tallest building when it opens in 2026, company CEO James Blackledge said in an interview last week.

The now-completed construction plans for the $600 million, 44-story skyscraper call for it to rise 677 feet. That’s 43 feet taller than First National Bank Tower, which has been the city’s tallest structure for the past two decades.

As suspected, a new tallest for Omaha!!!

Fun trivia: if built, Omaha will be only the 5th Midwest city to have at least two skyscrapers over 600' tall, after Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Detroit.

I always wondered why the Mutual of Omaha didn't have a skyscraper in it's home city. Nice design and Congrats to Omaha.
