It'd probably be in bad taste to make cracks about CAMPfires. I wonder, with sprinklers and perhaps other modern fire supression techniques in the build, if wood constrctuion is considered as safe from fire as concrete construction.
This is probably unfair, but seeing the wooden stick-built walls does not inspire confidence that this will be a quality development. But I know it is now being done, as in the development on Tacoma Dr. in Dartmouth. But it just makes me feel dubious.

The entire Velo on Gottingen is done this way. 1 level of concrete, with concrete fire break + 4 storeys of wood construction on top. It makes it more complicated in regard to fire code, but assume there are enough cost savings to make it worthwhile.

It is. These wood frame buildings do have a period during construction where they can be dangerous (look up the helicopter rescue video from Kingston, Ontario), but once fire suppression is in place they are just as safe.
Truth is, the furniture you will put into the apartment will be the most flammable part of the building, and smoke from burning furniture is ultimately what will be the most hazardous in most fire situations.

I've heard that a wood structure with the right sprinklering is safer than a concrete structure without.
