Yes, most of the #1 highway is flat, because it mostly passes through Glacial lake Regina, which is a thick layer of flat clay which was deposited on the bed of a huge lake that used to exist around Regina.

But if you think Sask is flat compared to Manitoba, think again. Just have a look:

but enough of that.. here are more pictures of Saskatchewan

Those relief shots are a tad misleading though. Yes - Sask. has higher elevations than Manitoba, but we aren't talking Rocky Mountains here. And it's not like those high sections of relief scattered throughout the province jump out at you as you approach them on the highway - it's generally gentle rises in the topography.

I mean, looking at the map, you would think that eastern MB and NWO are flat as a pancake - and anyone who's ever been there would certainly argue otherwise.

I will concede to the fact that the areas immediately east and west of Winnipeg is without a doubt the flattest land I have ever encountered.

I think what us Sask folk are trying to point out is not that we're a mountainous paradise but WE ARE a province worth seeing ..that we don't deserve to be passed up on by every person driving through of flying over

Agreed. (Look Regina and Saskatoon are working as one!)

The word Saskatchewan brings up a lot of negative connotations and stereotypes for people. At least it keeps the rift raft out.

many of these pictures remaind me of Manitoba (the lakes, the shield, etc.), what is neat of Sask. are those huge hills with meadows WITHOUT trees, that's where I'd like to go, where are they?

Qu'Appelle Valley just outside Regina. It's a huge valley, but the closest access is about 10-15 minutes away.

More Qu'Appelle...

Off topic, but remember when all those fish escaped into Diefenbaker.

I didn't catch a thing.

Speaking of Qu'Appelle valley, as someone who spend many years of childhood growing up in Regina, My parents used to ship me off to a YMCA camp called "Camp Ta-wa-si" during the summer. Good times. If anyone knows where to find pictures of this camp, I would love to see them. My understanding is that a few years back, the Regina YMCA sold this off... big loss to them. I have many fond memories here. Can't seem to find anything on the internet though...

Hey, Ive been there! I dont remember very much of it tho, just the rock wall on the side of the cafateria. It was near Fort San wasn't it?

I also miss Fort San creepiest place I've ever slept. And now they're redeveloping the land in to cottages

apparently the developer originally intended to demolish the whole site, but luckly, I think the heritage community took up arms and has prevented that from happening. Right now, its unclear what the exact plans are, but as far as I know, the buildings are still there.

I hope they at least keep some of the buildings, they're a huge part of Sask's history, and they're quite attractive

I'm planning on taking a trip over there and taking hundreds of pics this summer, just in case. This is the only modern-day picture I can find of the san:

I took a trip there this past summer (you may recall the pictures I posted.) It's amazing what you can find in this province if you just put in the effort. Plus only 45 minutes away from the city.

For me it was just luck. I was doing a job out in Bengough for a month and had no clue that valley would greet me.
