That was my hope for many years, having grown up in the area and having long admired the building (and done business in it).

Now, I'll just be happy if they don't tear it down.

The old tea shop on Ochterloney (next to Humble Pie) is getting a facelift; new roof, new windows. I wonder what will go in there.

Interesting. I always like to see new things come up in downtown Dartmouth (obviously, by my screen name). Had been to the tea shop a few years ago, and it was good - kinda sorry to see it close but at least there will be something different for Dartmouth as I'm not aware of any Japanese cuisine being available in the downtown area.

Took the ferry and strolled around DT Dartmouth last summer for a day and it was great to see a bit of a resurgence in the general area with a number of new shops, etc.

When I was a kid the area was more of a shopping zone with Woolworth's being the anchor store but also a Metropolitan on Alderney Drive (Commercial St.) and a Canadian Tire as well.

"Retro Japanese Restaurant"

Interesting, I wonder how it will be 'retro'?

Hopefully by avoiding the westernized nonsense we see all too often in Asian cuisine.

I was wondering if was more decor-related than cuisine-related.

I haven't been to Doraku in years, but when I did go (with colleagues from Japan), I was told that the food was close to what they would expect to find in Japan (they were from Tochigi prefecture).
