One Woodward doesn't belong on an ugly list. It's the most prominent of Minoru Yamasaki's local designs and a forerunner of what's to come.

I don't think it's attractive at ground level at all. It looks like a skate park underneath a car dealership.

I'm not a fan of the mechanical floors atop One Woodward. It looks like a very bad top hat. However, the rest of the building I like. It's not pretty, or good looking like the NYC's Chrysler, but it works, and fits in well with the surrounding buildings.
I also like the building at ground level. Which goes to show, as has been mentioned several times in this thread, people have very differing tastes.

So you like it from 2 out of 3 of its sides? Personally I like it from all directions. Yes, its highway face is very simple, but there is nothing wrong with it. Especially now that they have rid it of that ugly National City sign and put the blue light stripe on the top of it.

That's not what I'm actually saying. And your statement is purely subjective. Many people will agree with your postulation, many others wouldn't.

Personally I don't think the Chrysler Building is the best looking skyscraper in the world anyways. Before somebody tries to correct me, I'm not saying I don't like the look of the Chrysler, I do, it's a beautiful building, just not at the top of my list of best looking skyscrapers. The point which I shall reiterate is that everyone has different tastes and like and dislikes. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What I was saying with regards to One Woodward, is that it has its beauty in its own right. It works with its surroundings, and has a majestic brute force look, which to me is something quintessentially what a skyscraper should be.

lol, yeah, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just think the massing, details and lighting of Chrysler are about as close to perfect as we will ever get. As far as One Woodward goes, I agree with you. I have always been a fan of it. Really, I like the whole river facing wall of the financial district in Detroit.

Out of all the buildings in Pittsburgh, you pick the 5th ave place? aka Highmark building!! It's actually one of my favorite and much better in person! The pic you picked was an old one before it had the hallmark sign on it which gives it some accent and it glows blue at night.. oh and its Pittsburg"H". Thanks

I can never accuse AT&T of building anything that's pleasing to the eye, but the Longlines building that they built for Downtown Kansas City is especially hidious. While I concede that it's a functional building and never meant for looks, they picked a piss poor spot. I personally nicknamed this one "The Sore Thumb" of downtown K.C. because that's exactly how it sticks out!! Built in 1973, you would have thought it was built in the 40s. The inside lobby is just as hidious..dark, depressing, and downright scary!!

1 Liberty in Lower Manhattan is horribly ugly and stands out quite a bit even in NYC. It's poorly maintained because of either grime, or wear on the paint. It also replaced what may have been my favorite skyscraper had I been able to see it in real life.

The glorious Singer Building. Beaux-Arts + 47 stories = heaven. Former title holder for tallest building in the world, built in 1908.

I must be the only person that really likes 1 Liberty Place. It strikes a look of muscular power and strength, more so than just pretty looks.
