Taken 5 days ago...

A mess of cranes....as they build the foundations for the mall, other facilitated aspects of the project, and the office tower

this is the largest excavation and project by square footage in the city's history, I'm amazed it's not getting more attention:

Really? I would have thought Terminal 1 and FCP would have been larger. Regarding attention, I think Torontonians have become jaded and are experiencing construction fatigue. A building under 200m barely causes a stir unless it's architecturally noteworthy.

Personally, I've been disappointed too many times to get interested till a building is almost finished. Renderings are rarely representative of what gets built. Even this one I suspect will be 'devalue' engineereed to the point that I'm no longer interested in it. I'd love to be wrong but will wait till the cladding is 50% up.

If Rail Deck park, a new subway line, and/or the new rail terminal on the Unilever site starts I'll likely jump on board from the beginning. The rest? Why bother if we're only going to be more mediocrity and/or be disappointed?

The office tower dosen't look 174 meters tall in some of the renderings, not that it really matters.

What's important about this development is how the vibrant atrium connects commercial, office, and residential units together without turning its back to the surrounding area, rather enhancing it.

A final rendering was never posted:

This is the largest project in Toronto right now, 1,700 units, over a million sf of office, and hundreds of thousands of sf of retail. Probably one of the largest single projects on the continent right now, too.

It's turning out... "well". Although I still wish the office part was 50% taller.

This will be a substantial amount of photos, but only out of necessity for such a massive site. I only photographed the site from the south today:

From Draper street, a heritage conservation district and strip of homes built in the 1880's. This site was a former factory at one point, and long vacant until turned into a parkette as part of this project
