Boise's got a mural thing going on, first with a revamped Freak Alley, and now with a new mural on the Fowler Apartments in the upper right of this photo, and a new mural at the intersection of 8th and Fulton.

Image courtesy of Rapid Aerial via Boisedev.com:

closer look at the mural in progress on the Fowler and a small part of Freak Alley, from KBOI:

the Fowler mural artist, David Carmack Lewis, also recently finished a mural on the new Watercooler Apartments on the west end of downtown:

update on the Cartee project (image and quote from IdahoPress.com):

Quote:
Boise City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a rezoning request paving the way for Los Angeles-based developer Local Construct to build a mixed-use, eight-story building with 160 residential units and 170 parking spaces at 323 W. Broad St.

This development will be similar to Local Construct’s The Fowler, located a few blocks away and opened earlier this year. The z-shaped building, tentatively called The Cartee, is proposed to include three levels of parking, five levels of residential and commercial development on the street level.

yet another proposal for the Central Addition area. if this gets built, it'll be the 4th one under construction with a 4 block stretch.

thanks to TVurban for finding the application and images.

the new Home2Suites hotel and garage is approved and ready to start construction.

the garage is scheduled to break ground next month, and construction on the attached hotel to begin a couple months later.

thanks to TVUrban for these interior renderings of the new Moshe Safdie library proposal:

texture on the floor is actually shadows from a ceiling installation to give people the sense they're walking under a grove of trees.

probably not in my lifetime.

the Mayor has been pushing the idea for years, and last year the city endorsed it and chose a Phase 1 route that connects the CBD with Boise State:

images courtesy of Boisedev.com.

future phases would connect other parts of downtown, and eventually the city would like it to link with a broader, valley-wide rail transit system.

the city is actively pursuing it. here's a Boisedev article from last year with more details:

https://boisedev.com/news/2017/8/15/...e-bieter-achd/

big issues are funding and NIMBYs, so I'm not holding my breath.

here is a link to a great video posted on Boisedev.com that shows the past, present, and future of Harris Ranch, which is an ongoing community development on the east side of Boise. at full build-out, the community will have over 2,000 homes, news schools, commercial areas, parks, and public areas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=HZRHrC63omQ

(I tried to embed the video, but it's not working for some reason... I've noticed other people are having the same issue)

this area is about 10 minutes from downtown Boise.

to give an idea of how new this project is, the "past" portion of the video shows the valley in the early 2000s; so far, about 1,000 homes have been constructed, along with a new school, fire station, park, and a small commercial area.

in the "Future" section of the video, there are some empty areas east and west of the development; these areas are currently being built-up as separate developments.

still image from the video:

St Luke's has begun construction on their West End campus, on 27th street:

It's not much, but the West End has been little more than empty dirt lots for awhile. this project and Adare Manor will hopefully start to fill in those areas and spark more development.

The new ballpark is rumored to be moving to this area, as well, which would likely spur additional projects.

thanks sawtooth! that building will be a very nice addition to the campus.

I found this aerial rendering of the St Luke's main campus expansion; I noticed that one crane is coming down, and it looks like another will be going up soon for Phase 2:
