Scaffolding up at 43-30 24th Street

We last stopped by 43-30 24th Street in May when steel beams had appeared on site. When we stopped by last week, the building has topped out and scaffolding has appeared on site, as seen in the photo below. Signage calls for a fall 2017 delivery on the mixed-use space. The Real Deal was the first to spot construction permits back in May, and here is more information about the entirety of the project (this building is just a small piece of it):

The 838,000-square-foot building at 43-30 24th Street will include 921 rental apartments, 17,000 square feet of retail space, a library and an indoor swimming pool. […] Stawski Partners, founded by German-born Axel Stawski, owns half a dozen office buildings in Manhattan, including 360 Madison Avenue and the Broad Financial Center at 33 Whitehall Street.

Nice. Yet another 700 ft.+ residential tower in LIC. Looks like 730 ft. per DOB.

And a tower with real bulk. 1.1 million square feet, and nearly 1,000 residences.

I wonder how much the design will change. Maybe a more slender design, with just enough bump in height to make a the tallest in Queens. That would be nice.

The San Francisco-based developer secured $364.8 million from Wells Fargo for its development site at 43-30 and 43-16 24th Street in Queens, according to property records filed Wednesday.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Carmel’s plans for the site have changed since March. The developer did not immediately comment Wednesday.

Stawski, which had begun assembling the development site in 1994, filed plans in 2016 for a 66-story residential tower spanning more than 850,000 square feet. The site is right at the edge of the Court Square area that was part of a rezoning in 2001 to allow for skyscrapers. The rezoning did not allow for buildings higher than five stories to the west of the tower, preserving its expected Manhattan views.

This one has been under construction for several months. A tower crane should be up soon. The design appears to be the same as before with a height roughly comparable to neighboring Skyline Tower, which is 778 ft.

Between this, the Jackson Ave Tower near Queens Plaza, the former Toyoko Hotel project, Jackson East/West, and the other towers under construction along Jackson and nearby, LIC's "downtown" is getting serious density.

Here is a shot I took of the construction fencing a few months ago.

This is a very exciting time to be a resident of Queens. We have the continued boom of Long Island City, Innovation QNS, two massive developments in Halletts Point, Wildflower Studios, and of course the coming NYCFC stadium and Willetts Point redevelopment. And "maybe" the IBX rail line?

this looks like it could be pretty slick per the site notice render. i give it a wait and see. certainly its a lot of apts, so that is good.
