Continental used to run the 737-500 btwn YEG and IAH.

Never know, maybe AA will come. I doubt it. The press release didnt say anything about a "new" carrier. But I cant see AC providing the service. It would only make sense if it was Continental because of competition.

Efficient air access between the burgeoning oil and gas powerhouses of Edmonton and Houston is critical for developing strong business and trade linkages as well as capitalizing on Continental’s significant hub service for creating new tourism opportunities in the Edmonton region. Travellers from Edmonton will also have even more choices for one stop air travel to vacation destinations.

Continental plans to become a Star Alliance partner on October 27 of this year, allowing future travel to earn and redeem frequent flyer mileage on affiliated airlines such as Air Canada’s Aeroplan.

Continental Airlines Begins New Nonstop Service From Houston to Edmonton
Daily flight is the 11th Canadian destination to be served by Continental

HOUSTON, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced new non-stop service from its Houston hub to Edmonton International Airport beginning November 1, 2009, subject to government approval. The daily flight is the 11th Canadian destination to be served by Continental and the fourth Canadian destination from the airline's Houston hub.

The service will be operated using a Boeing 737-500 aircraft with 114 seats. The flights from Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will depart at 6:00 p.m. and arrive at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) at 9:25 p.m. Return flights will depart Edmonton at 6:40 a.m. and arrive in Houston at 11:56 a.m.

Not the least surprised to see this flight return.It was a busy route when it operated before but the flight times were horrible which then caused a drop in traffic on the flight.

Glad to see the better flight times this time around...

Anyways good start with Continental, one of the better American Carriers imo.

I recently came back from a long holiday to Europe. I flew YEG-YUL-GVA-YUL-YEG using the E90 / 763 / 763 / 320 aircraft. All flights were full. Montreal and Geneva are good airports to connect through, not too big and not too small. The only issue with Montreal is that their post-security concessions / shops are quite limited relative to their pre-security concessions / shops. Geneva's airport is relatively small but they have decent international service and easyjet is also a main airline there so there is choice.

Both airports also had banners touting the new Montreal-Geneva non-stop flight with AC. I'm curious if Edmonton should look at something like that with the Continental flight.

I also got to fly an internal one-way route from Germany (MUC) to Poland (POZ) with Augsburg Airways part of Lufthansa Cityline on a Q400. Great service including a good sandwich, snacks and beverages including wine and beer and all free for under $100. I would definitely recommend that airline and fly with them again. Just an FYI for all us enthusiasts.
