Incredible numbers for Vancouver and Surrey. Together it's 25 murders for a million people.

Meanwhile it's 18 murders for Montreal island (2 million).

Wtf is going on?

I'm just taking numbers from the Homicide Canada web site and they match homicides to the municipalties they occurred in - thus are all of those 23 in the city of Montreal or have some occurred outside of Monteal's city limits?

The horrible thing about what he said is that it forces us to accept that young, non-white men face difficulty integrating into our society and that it's up to us, as the demographic that controls society, to fix it. That's hard!

The process looks something like this (specifics will vary) and it uses up our precious, precious pothole filling money! :'(

Same thing that went on in Montreal in the late 80s and early 90s. Drugs and gangs.

Its for the whole island (2 million people) and its 22, not 23.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...0576260071&z=8

Last time the island had over 30 homicides was 2012 with 35. Last time we had 40 was 2007 with 41.

According to the Homicide Canada site mentioned above, the Halifax area is at 4 so far this year. It's felt like a quiet year as far as major crime goes.

Ottawa likely has another with man found shot dead in the west end early this morning.

Gatineau may have another one too - ''suspicious death'' of a baby only a few weeks old being investigated this morning.

Once confirmed, it will be Ottawa's 16th of the year.

Edit: Correction - CBC says it was the 15th of the year. Total in 2017 was 14.

It’s been quiet in Toronto. Don’t think there has been a homicide in 2 weeks.

Part 3 of an ongoing series about native youth dying in Thunder Bay. This particular episode has quite a few graphic details.

It's cold outside now, so the murder rate has dropped as it always does when it get cold

Homicide #23 for Montreal. And pretty much as usual, "he was known to police". Source

I suppose third strike you're out?

Regina man to undergo dangerous offender assessment after 2 homicide convictions

Regina is at six now.
Shooting death of 21-year-old Regina man being treated as homicide

Another 22 year old was at the hospital with a gunshot wound just a day ago as well. Could have been number seven.

This is our third or forth? I don't keep track as closely as I used to.

Quote:
Police investigate south side homicide

THUNDER BAY -- City police are investigating a homicide that took place on Cumming Street.

Thunder Bay Police were called to an apartment in the 200 block of Cumming Street Tuesday around 5:30 a.m.

The scene is currently being held by police.

The building in which it happened is referred to by some people in the neighbourhood as la farmacia. You can get all kinds of drugs there. It's a horrible place to live; a worse place to die. The door that is ajar in the photo, is always ajar. I don't think it actually closes.

Vancouver + Surrey is actually close to 1.2 million people I think.

25 is not great but it's not extraordinarily high for that population.

It's really Montreal that's extremely low right now.

Four charged with first-degree murder in Cumming Street death

...

Thunder Bay Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Ashley Chantal McKay of Thunder Bay.

...

The crime scene remains under police control.

Marlene Lou Kwandibens, 37, Roger Donald McKay, 34, Terryl Nicole Irene Michon, 21, and Darren Steven Oombash, 24, all of Thunder Bay, each face a charge of first-degree murder.

...
We don't see first degree murder charges very often here, they're usually second degree or manslaughter.

I was recently posting links to Canadaland's podcast on Thunder Bay; the site was hit with a DDoS attack last night.

It feels like there has been an increase in gun shots in Regina.

Man shot in Regina's west end Wednesday night

Third incident with one homicide in less than a week.
