agreed. If you want to dress up for dinner, go for it, if others dont, who are we to judge? I cant count how many times ive gone to olive garden and have seen people dressed to the nines, and I didnt judge them for dressing up at a casual restaurant, nor do I judge people from dressing casual at a "high end" restaurant. It makes no difference to my dining experience what other people are wearing, but thats me.

Big Smoke Burger is indeed from the Big Smoke (Toronto). Hand crafted burgers, hand cut fries, etc. Many locations in malls and expanding nationally and internationally. However, it has been a while since I have had one of their burgers at the Eaton Centre.

Agreed.

However, I've had experiences at 295 that were great, albeit hampered by the odd more boisterous patrons. Fun, even excited is fine, but it's been invasive and obnoxious.

They seemed to dress and more importantly behave, like self proclaimed cool kids. The flat brim caps and ripped jeans, giant fake diamond studs et al are byproducts.

Because it's rude. Being sloppy in public is disrespectful of everyone around you who doesn't want to see sloppy people. And far from what many of you are saying about 'casual' being in, there's been a backlash going on against that for a decade now. Winnipegger's are just the kind of dumpy slobs who have no problem wearing dirty sweatpants all the time, or parking their car under a tent in their front yard.

And by the way, button downs and chinos are casual. Ball caps and sweats are sloppy.

Definitely count me as a member of the Tony Soprano school of wanting to threaten physical violence on people who wear baseball hats into restaurants. If the sun isn't in your eyes, stop wearing the thing that's supposed to keep it out of your eyes.

That's none of their business. I don't really care what other people want to see. Sometimes I dress up - sometimes I don't. That's up to me. If there's a dress code - fine. That's up to the establishment. It's not up to other self important people.

^ I'm not saying people should put on a suit everytime they go to Moxie's or wherever, but for goodness sakes if you're going to a place with tablecloths, at least leave the track pants, t-shirt and ballcap at home. It shouldn't have to be spelled out in a dress code.

It is upbringing. Not removing headwear once indoors is bad manners and if manners are not taught this is what happens.

It's only bad manners because that happened to be a social norm in your time. Things change.

I really don't see how it harms anyone else. If someone has money to spend and it's allowed, I don't really care.

It's the behaviour for me.

The people i was referring to had ripped jeans and ball caps, but probably $200 ripped jeans and $60 caps. $300 sneakers, trendy street wear... visually ridiculous to me, but it's the street behaviour , the "I run dis shit/BALLINNN" conduct that's off-putting.

I see where you're coming from. I just don't feel it's my business.

.
Go to Europe and see how many are walking around with stupid ball caps on, at least it's easy to identify the American tourists there and avoid them!

I agree with you here. Behaviour definitely effects my dining experience, but what they're wearing doesnt. A guy in a suit behaving like an asshole is just as bad as a guy wearing a ball cap behaving like an asshole.

Disclosure: I wear baseball caps to restaurants all the time if their dresscode permits it. I lost my hair at a very young age and I am super self conscious about it and wearing a hat makes me feel more comfortable.

And that's just the thing. I don't know you, and it's your business - not mine.

I agree in principle absolutely... but if I have to be honest with myself that at a certain point, my business or not, and opinion could develop haha!

People dress well when going out for a nice dinner out of respect for themselves and for others. Yeah you can ignore that and most restaurants will still happily take your money, but it's simply poor etiquette and shows disregard for your fellow diners.

I mean, you wouldn't show up at a wedding wearing jeans and a ballcap... the same idea applies to fine dining. Again, I'm not talking about casual places, but really a select handful of higher end spots. If one can't be bothered to put something decent on for 529, then why even bother going there given that such a person is really not that interested in the fine dining experience?

No, not ettiquette. It never changes. Sure, more people ignore it now, doesn't mean it is right.

I think that's really just nonsense. Everything changes. Live with it.
