Liberals have 4/8 in Ottawa now; PC and NDP have 2 each.

4/9 Liberal seats are in Ottawa.

Its a return to roots. The entire big blue machine era saw Ottawa mostly vote Liberal while the province was governed by the PCs for decades.

The OPP has asked the RCMP to look into the Greenbelt land issue, to "avoid any potential perceived conflict of interest". And rightly so.

Doug Ford cancels controversial $8.28-billion Greenbelt land swap: ‘It was a mistake’
Premier Doug Ford is scrapping his controversial Greenbelt land swap in a desperate bid to salvage his sputtering Progressive Conservative government.

NIAGARA FALLS — Premier Doug Ford is scrapping his controversial Greenbelt land swap in a desperate bid to salvage his sputtering Progressive Conservative government.

In a stunning U-turn following the eruption of the $8.28-billion scandal last month, Ford on Thursday announced he was reversing the removal of the 7,400 acres from the two-million-acre protected swath.

Michael Higgins: Doug Ford's Greenbelt apology a lesson for the never-sorry Trudeau
Maybe the Ontario premier will start a trend

Quote:
Michael Higgins
Published Sep 21, 2023

Sorry really is the hardest word, so good for Ontario Premier Doug Ford for having the courage to say it.

Most politicians try to ride out scandals in the hope they are quickly forgotten, get overtaken by other events or, if all else fails, call an inquiry. The last option tends to cover most sins and most questions. The politician can say he has done something but also knows he will be picking up a golden pension by the time the inquiry comes to a conclusion.

By publicly saying sorry, Ford has chosen the humiliating option, but one for which he should be applauded. It’s pretty easy to think of politicians who have screwed up, it’s harder to think of ones that have sincerely apologised, and it’s sincerity that counts.

And now future leadership candidate Monte McNaughton is leaving. This is an actual loss to the government. Maybe he's getting out now to ride back in for the leadership race a couple years from now

RCMP investigating Ontario government's plan to open Greenbelt land for development
RCMP announced criminal investigation on Tuesday

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...belt-1.6991595

The RCMP announced Tuesday it has launched a criminal investigation into Ontario Premier Doug Ford's Greenbelt land swap scandal.

"Following a referral from the Ontario Provincial Police, the RCMP O Division's Sensitive and International Investigations (SII) unit has now launched an investigation into allegations associated to the decision from the Province of Ontario to open parts of the Greenbelt for development," an RCMP spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

"While we recognize that this investigation is of significant interest to Canadians, the RCMP has a duty to protect the integrity of the investigations that it carries out, in order to ensure that the process leads to a fair and proper outcome. Therefore, no further updates will be provided at this time."

The criminal probe comes after OPP said in August that the force had asked the Mounties to decide whether an investigation is warranted, in order to "avoid any potential perceived conflict of interest."

Doug Ford government paying for-profit clinic more than hospitals for OHIP-covered surgeries, documents show
Discrepancy raises questions about plans to do more surgeries outside of Ontario's public hospitals

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...tals-1.7026926

Premier Doug Ford's government gives a for-profit clinic more funding to perform certain OHIP-covered surgeries than it gives Ontario's public hospitals to perform the same operations, CBC News has learned.

Ontario's government has never before made public the rates it pays a private clinic in Toronto to perform thousands of outpatient day surgeries each year.

Through a freedom of information request, CBC News obtained documents that reveal those funding rates for the first time.

Four senior officials who work in different parts of Ontario's hospital system reviewed the documents, and all four say the rates being paid to the privately owned Don Mills Surgical Unit Ltd. are noticeably higher than what the province provides public hospitals for the same procedures.

That discrepancy raises questions about the government's imminent plans to expand the volume and scope of surgeries performed outside of hospitals, including the potentially lucrative field of hip and knee replacements.

Ford and his health minister have pitched this expansion as a cost-efficient way to get more surgeries done and reduce wait times.

Maybe we really need to go blue federally so ONPC knows that its days are numbered.

Is The Beer Store finished? Sources say announcement coming soon that could end monopoly
Within the next month, the Ford government is expected to announce it’s not renewing the Master Framework Agreement, which prevents anyone but The Beer Store from selling beer by the case.

https://www.thespec.com/business/is-...cbfcdaede.html

The Beer Store was once a retail juggernaut, selling 90 per cent of all beer consumed in Ontario.

But with dwindling market share, increased competition and the provincial government on the verge of opening the floodgates to beer and wine sales in corner stores, a growing number of observers wonder whether the once-dominant chain can survive.

Would that be a case of, "Damned if we do and damned if we don't?"
