I wouldn't say it douchy but very tongue-in-cheek and gringe-worthy. Location is great for views and access to SkyTrain (Patterson), although it it's a little more than the 1-4 minutes walk quoted.

That 3D model if the area is cool and I would like to play with it more as Google Maps doesn't deliver in 3D in Burnaby.

It's actually not. Central Park starts right at the corner of Kingsway and Patterson, even though most people avoid the northern portion of the park that is cut off from the rest by the Skytrain guideway. Google maps has the walk from 4275 Grange to the Jubilee Grove Arch at 260 meters.

I know the area very well. Unless you are going to cut through the concrete tower parkade, you have to go around the block. One minute is pure fantasy and even five minutes will be a very brisk walk without no time being spent crossing Kingsway. In practice it's going to be closer to 10 minutes most of the time.

Looks like you can walk down the pathway leading to Barker Ave.

I just started watching the video again and yes he says Central Park - not Patterson Station. Google maps shows that as a 4 minute walk.

I remember using that walkway and looking in streetview shows it's still there. But it's not going to make much of a difference to walking time. Still that's not very far to walk to a Skytrain station.

This is the shortest way to Central Park, not Patterson

I think you guys are just arguing over semnatics and degrees.

FarmerHaight, as you rightly pointed out, when most people talk of Central Park, they're more often than not (incorrectly yes, but colloquially and informally) referring primarily to the wooded area and hiking trail south of the skytrain guideway and not necessarily including the baseball field and grass field to the north and just south of Kingsway - even though they are part of the park.

And in that context then, that would be a roughly 10 minute walk from that Grange street area as Klazu said..

But obviously if you go via the strict (and correct) definition of what Central Park is - meaning, including the baseball field and grass park north of the guideway - then as the Google Map estimates, it will be a roughly 4 minute walk.

Opinion: Plans for Burnaby development led by big B.C. union would make history
BCGEU wants to have affordable housing as part of new offices
Chris Campbell

Plans for a mixed-use building that includes a huge affordable housing component would make city history if it gets approved by Burnaby.

And hopefully it pushes others to meet the same goals to help ease our housing affordability crisis.

The B.C. General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) has land in Burnaby that will house its new offices, but is rolling this into a large development that includes housing and child-care spaces.

“Submitted our plans to Burnaby for a mixed-use office, daycare, cafe and rental housing building by Royal Oak SkyTrain. Very excited to move this project forward,” tweeted Paul Finch, BCGEU treasurer, along with the photo attached to this story.

The rental portion consists of 292 units, of which a minimum of 50% will be locked in as below-market, affordable homes, Finch said.

“Very excited to provision a new area office for our members and staff while contributing urgently needed affordable rental stock,” Finch said.

That'll be amazing if it happens. It's almost next door to Royal Oak Station - and I think if it was on the other side of Royal Oak it would pass at warp speed. But because it's in an area the city wants lower heights I think they could have a fight on their hands. The city will want the height cut in half (or more).

I was just gonna say.
That seems rather tall for that area in Palm ave and just East of Royal Oak Ave.(outside the designated Burnaby Metrotown 'Downtown' core and on the wrong side for highrises).

Normally I'd say it wouldn't stand a chance getting through at that height in that location.
Definitely, if they had just bought some lots on the west side of Royal Oak and decided to do this project there, they'd be more than fine. Especially with all those fixings.
Plus, the current location is mostly industrial with some commerical .

But on the other hand,.....
... the city might have a hard time turning down almost 300 rental units (with 50% of them below market rate) AND a childcare facility that's that close to a Transit stop.

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out since I don't imagine the city wants to set a precedent for breaking out of their OCP and making these kinds of exceptions, even with all the sweeteners that this project seems to be bringing along in tow.

On a related note, I find it fascinating how these kinds of non-adjacent entities have been getting into the Real estate and housing and rental market game even with no prior experience.
It's not like they already owned this land or the property on it before deciding to convert its usage.
They went out of their way to buy out those lots and the intention of not just building their HQ there but also these housing units.

Four new towers in the heart of Brentwood. Those in Amazing Brentwood Tower 1 are sure to lose so views depending on how tall these will go.

Lots of potential with this site in particular. Would be nice to see some provisions for integration with the future Willingdon Skytrain line as part of this. Also a great opportunity for Burnaby to bring a centerpiece to the Brentwood skyline, something other than rectangular architecture and 250m+.

The lot is not that huge, so four towers will completely pack it. That's a good point about the future SkyTrain line between Metrotown and North Shore needing a stop in Brentwood. I would think any such station would be underground.
