midcentury modern is hot again right now. i'm not happy about another parking deck, but i'm completely fine w/the way it looks.

There are several benefits to this. Emory has agreed to allow future development as active use on its surface lots in the area, this will add street level activation to the area and the building will actually be visually interesting.

I completely agree that NOT adding huge parking deck would be ideal but a hospital requires parking. Kudos to Emory for working with the planning dept and to the planning dept for being proactive on yet another potential disaster.

Seems far better than where they started in the design phase. Much improved. As has been said, the hospital needs parking. It already has a ton of it, in multiple surface lots all around the campus’ perimeter. And by making these five surface parking sites available for commercial development, this could turn out to be among the most significant parking garages developed in all of Downtown/Midtown in ages. Not for the garage itself, of course, but for the tremendous potential of those five sites to become home to millions of square feet of office and/or residential. Remember, this is an area that is becoming far more desirable since the Bedford Pine Shelter closed. Exciting to consider the possibilities.

Yes! I've been keeping my fingers crossed for 161 Peachtree Center Ave to move forward. It checks all of the boxes on my list:
1. Re-purposing an existing/underutilized parking structure
2. Downtown residential development
3. Great design
4. TOD

Amazing. Love it. Can't wait for this to inspire more developers to come downtown.

The last image does a good job showing where the existing lots are and how they'll be consolidated, although I was there was info related to the amount of parking and acreage of the 5 sites compared with the new deck. Looks like Emory will still have 2 additional parking decks in addition to the new 3,000 space deck (looks like the existing at Pine & WP, as well as a new one at Linden and Peachtree as seen in the second image on the top row. Parking decks represented as gray squares outlined in orange).

Yes, it looks like a parking deck and that it is what it is. But multiple aspects of its design do make it quite special when compared to the norm in this city. The bigger ones have already been stated but one small one I enjoy is the glass elevator tower. This visibility to and from the street will make parking in this garage feel quite a bit safer for women and anyone else who's been made to feel uncomfortable in the dark, windowless corridors that usually lead to a parking garage pedestrian exit.

Ascent looks fantastic. Any development that repurposes existing parking automatically jumps to the top of the list of best projects in this town. But it looks great in its own right.

Those renderings for the proposed Juniper and 5th building are originally from the first developer the church was going to select, I believe. I can't remember the name of the developer, but the deal fell through because they couldn't get the numbers to pencil out. I actually have one of those pictures on my phone from January 2018. I'm not sure if StreetLights is using their original renderings, but based on what Curbed has said, that does not look inspired by Gothic architecture. I could be wrong though.
