A casino-themed station would have been too literal and heavy-handed.
The area could use something more interesting than that which is being built though.

If only the platforms were longer (and this is not because of capacity, but design reasons), you could continue that cool platform roof shelter design, which would add to the impact.

Bridgeport is disgusting honestly. In the plans, they made it look amazing, but looking at it in the area, it's completely different. The Park and Ride next door doesn't really help either... -__-"

The Casino should have put in money to up the design quality.

The Casino uses quite a bit of wood elements.....a semi-wood roof like Renfrew Station would be nice.

Mr. X and Urbanizer405 are thinking along the lines of what i imagined. By Casino themed I mean more of a grand design, using such looks of large wooden beams (as those found at the river rock) and maybe on the outside a more casino style sign that reads - Bridgeport Station. Basically more imagination than what is there. If you travel to other world class cities they have some amazing stations with very wild lighting effects/LCD screen displays and they don't "annoy" the daily commuter. It makes the station more multi-functional than just a station. Retail elements are added as are park elements in some cases. I especially feel this way about bridgeport because it is a hub station. All the other stations are nice though!

The casino structure above the park & ride parking garage will have all of the signature elements that the existing casino building has - so that style will be present in the adjoining project. Eventually the bus loop will be built on so the station itself won't be visible.
Arguably, keeping the station design simple is better than say, the heritage kitsch of Surrey Central Station.

I don't think anyone's looking to the Surrey stations for inspiration.
Hopefully those will get a redesign with the platform extensions.

I just realized that the glass isn't going to the roof at Bridgeport, Aberdeen and Lansdowne Stations. Check out the Busby rendering versus the photo. There'll be a lot of wind-blown rain on the platforms.... Apparently that was a big problem with the 98 B-Line bus shelters - the gap above the side wall allowed rain to blow into the shelter.

Why? There are open stations on the M line... its not a big deal, you just stand a bit back of the tracks while you are waiting for the train.

it's different....with the M-Line, there's a bit of overhang on the roof which blocks most of the blown rain but with the Canada Line.......

Yeah, not a problem at Bridgeport, which is a centre platform (so the tracks will take the rain), but at Aberdeen and Lansdowne - I can see wet platforms.

Hmm yeah i didn't even think of that... well i guess you just have to hunker down near the middle.

Now that I think about it though Production way station is like that, albeit with only one side open but I have never once had a problem there.

yeah, oh i see what you are saying... i took it to be the opposite.

well i cant imagine too much water getting in that little strip shown on the renderings, and that's what I meant by saying you could just stand back of the tracks a bit and be quite sheltered. if your back was to the wall theoretically you would remain quite dry if the rain was coming in at an angle due to winds. Might get a little wet on the leward side, but that would need to be quite the wind, which we are fortunate in Vancouver not to get to often.

It is but the roof curves upwards. The Canada stations in Richmond don't look any worse for wind-blown rain than Production, and I've also never had a problem with rain on the platform there.

The Richmond stations are almost exactly like Holdom in this respect.

I think Sea Island Centre will also have a gap above the glass wall too (see this Tafryn pic) - with glass only up to the thin cross-member - but the gap is much narrower than at Aberdeen & Lansdowne:

Rupert and Renfrew don't go all the way up, but have a bigger roof overhang (as do Lake City, Sapperton, etc.):

oh.. now i see what you guys are saying, i should have read it more carefully. i thought you were talking about the overhang in the middle. that is a strange way to save a few bucks

I think it's also for air circulation and so the walls don't have much wind pressure on them - but practicality seems to have been turfed...
