Noticed that YFC finally has a new website. Old one was too cluttered. This one is cleaner...not perfect....but a step in the right direction...

Heard on the radio yesterday (but it isn't on their websites yet), that a developer has made a proposal for the spot between Westgate and the Legion building. They are still working out sight lines and layout, but their plans were for commercial first floor, residential on the remaining floors. I can't recall how many floors it will have.

Once they get the details finalized it will go to council for approval and all the rest of the fun stuff.

I heard somewhere that ADI had purchased that piece of property a while back.

Big Brown in Town

Had a UPS delivery guy finally show up in his spanking new brown delivery truck. Up till a week or so ago UPS was using Purolator to do their deliveries in the Freddy market.

I've noticed a few of their trucks around town this week. I hate UPS with a passion though. Nothing worse than having an international seller ship something to you via UPS.

Yup, saw a Brown truck parked at Superstore last night.

Of course it isn't all good news. My coworker ordered a Tablet last week, and it was shipped via UPS, and it got tangled up in Moncton due to the systems still being unkinked. (He should have had it last night; he's still waiting now)

There was an article in todays paper about this and it said that the were some uncertainties with the soil conditions and once that is sorted out they will finalize the number of floors and release the design details. Apparently there were also some concerns of some residents of the new building on Queen Street about this new building blocking the veiw of the river.

Proponents are A. J. Investments Ltd which include Tony George and architect Carl Smythe. They are the ones who built and designed the recently completed 6 storey apartment building on Victoria Street. Will take 18-24 months to complete. First renderings will available in a few weeks.

This mornings news states that Kingswood has announced that construction of a $39 Million hotel and water park will begin in early 2013. Hotel is 4-star 125 room Radisson, meeting and banquet facility, a resort village (a 48-60 unit apartment building, 1700 sq ft town homes integrated into the golf course) and a 12000 square foot indoor water park. It will be know as The Kingswood Resort Village

That's excellent news. Too bad that is all outside of the city limits and won't contribute to the tax base.

Hopefully whatever they build will be much more attractive than the Victoria Street building.

Not for now. But Hanwell will be amalgamated into Freddy eventually; considering all the development going on that way, and by then Kingswood will (hopefully) be too big and popular to avoid the taxes then.

In the mean time though, being outside the city limits, means that that 39 million dollar project won't count in the permits total for the city for next year.

This is great news, wonder hoe many stories the hotel will be, 125 rooms is a pretty good size, I would assume atleast 4-6.

Radisson hotels are very nice! There's a couple of hotels currently under construction here in St. John's that have approximately the same number of rooms and both are 5 stories. On the other hand, there's a proposal for a Hilton which will have 155 rooms and that's 12 stories high. So you never know, it could be a taller building....

I would assume 20-30 rooms/floor, so 5 stories wouldn't be too lofty of an expectation.

Where is this Kingswood development for someone who isn't familiar with it? This sounds very good.
