But I enjoy both - I just think the former is better, not worse. It's even somehow more fun to me looking at pictures people took themselves, even without any context - like Klazu's posts. It feels like you're getting to know the place a little more intimately.
I think what you posted is perfectly fine. I've always viewed this thread as the more casual, fun place to post one's pictures. I like the "anything goes" format. The Canada section is better for it.

Couldn't disagree more, that Peter Easton post was almost like a trip there in person!

The whole point (at least for me personally) of this thread is to be figuratively taken by the hand through (part of) someone else's city. The experience is a lot nicer when you have context and local color, not only a bunch of pics.

If all I wanted was a bunch of random pics of [enter city here] with zero explanations of what's what, I could get that on Google in a few milliseconds.

Tthat's ok though. We can't have all the exact same expectations coming here.

By all means, carry on. Hope to see many more amazing pics here in 2015.

Too much armchair moderating (and general petty whining). "You should only post your own photos". "That's not strictly a city photo". "Waah, too many pictures". "But those photos are a few months old". "That city has more pictures than my city". "Hey, that's not in Canada". Blah blah blah.

How about we just let everyone post whatever they want and leave the mods to deal with any particularly egregious violations of etiquette. Someone posting a few pictures of his friends at a bar alongside the urban photos really isn't a problem in the grand scheme of things (even in SSP terms). Especially in a thread that's about posting pictures.

New camera finally arrived. Christened it today with a lunch-time drive up Signal Hill. I tried out the in-camera HDR setting and a few other ones. Awful. I could barely salvage what remained - but it's all good.

BTW - I've mentioned before that I have no idea where EC gets its snow-on-ground measurements. The above is what 14cm on the ground, officially, looks like.

I've never been to St. John's yet I am already starting to recognize areas and street corners of it without even trying due to sheer familiarity...

Nice and sunny there, for a change.

I had to sneak out for a few night shots, despite the fact it's gusting up to 100 km/hr here and is -4C.

I'll need to play with the settings more. They're not quite the same as I was used to with the old camera.

This is the last year for the Signal Hill Star. It's being replaced next year by a new one, which will hopefully be the compass-based option. Voting ended yesterday, I believe, but I haven't heard yet which won.

All the "old" stuff in the foreground is Kitchener while you can see a few of the disgustingly ugly student towers in Waterloo in the background

I'm not sure where this shot specifically was taken, but there are a number of these sorts of concrete tributaries & buried streams that lead into Toronto's rivers, the most notable being Black Creek.

Canon Rebel T5i. Still entry level (feels even more like a toy than I remember my last one being) but it's excellent thus far.

A few from my commute home. Took the scenic route.

When I was growing up, this public housing was all fake Tudor - white and brown. Now they've painted them or, worse, put on vinyl siding. You can't see them but just to the left of the red ones is a series of four more that are still original.
