Despite the short stations (which isn't a big deal for me) i am very excited about this project and can not wait to ride it! It is going to be a great improvement to the regions transit. I have already had a few trips to the airport this year where i could have used it instead of driving.

The station house superstructure is being erected at Vancouver City Centre Station - you can see columns in through the gaps in the tarp. I think the horizontal beams I saw from above (from the office looking down) must be at the top of the columns for the roof. Looks very simple compared to the initial rendering (which the City did not like).

It's not a call firefighters ever get used to - smoke pouring from an underground tunnel.

That's what happened this morning at a Canada Line construction pit at Davie and Pacific.

The fire started around 6am in a hydraulic lift about two to three levels below Davie Street and Pacific.

Crews had to enter a Canada Line tunnel in the dark with limited communications to extinguish the blaze, which was believed to be an electrical fire.

Battalion chief Laurie Martin says no one was injured, partly thanks to fortunate timing:

"As far as we know, there's nobody on scene. The construction crews are all just showing up at six o'clock and nobody was in the tunnel."

He says work could probably resume later today once the burned-out hydraulic lift is pulled off the site.

I think I'm starting to prefer the train to be all white, just like the MKII ones. The current C-Line train colour scheme isn't bad, but it looks a bit better if it's all white.

Yeah I agree. The green-blue ends look like they've been tacked on. The plain grey looks really good.

Yeah I prefer that.... Just spray paint the front gray please and add the Canada Line livery on the side... a blue green "wave" just like the blue yellow "wave" on the SkyTrains.

Mhm... =P I don't mind the blue/green head design they have right now, but the problem is that it's just at the front, and nothing at the side... If they stretched out that design a little more, like all the way before the last door, it would've looked cool... Oh wait we need it to fade to a nicer shade of green, and then fade from green to gray. Right now, it's just blue fade to green, then it just ends there.

How expensive could it possibly be to paint the entire train white? o_O

Is this deja vu or something??? Am I wrong to say there will be ads on the sides of the trains to fill in all the unpainted areas? I'm guessing what we see today is not the finished product. If that's the case, they'll look much different.

No we know that, but that shouldn't affect the design of the train... If you had the extended the blue green gray gradient, you can still have ads plastered on the bottom half of the train without affecting the actual design of the train.

Haha we should be talking in the actual vehicle section =P

Pic of the Vancouver City Centre Station entrance taken by me today.

Compared to the renderings, it looks like the Granville doorway has been eliminated (i.e. the distance between the top of the escalators and the Georgia frontage seems too narrow for another doorway facing the side, at least not as wide as pictured in the rendering). I recall the City did not like the concrete spine down the building. So it appears to be gone.

Sea Island is my favorite station. The pedestrian walkway, if it looks anything like the plan, will only add to the visual impact of the station.

I am very pleased with all of the above ground stations, except for bridgeport. I really wish the casino stepped in and designed some crazy casino themed station. (Or at least added some flavor). But as i just said, all the other stations are turning out well.

I think a casino themed station would have driven crazy the daily commuters who pass through the station.

Why not? People here are always complaining Vancouver has no variety, well, ideas outside of the box bring variety. The millennium line incorporated designs that represent the neighborhood, some more impressive architecture at bridgeport in a casino style theme (i don't mean in a cartoon manner with slot machines or any of that stuff). Its hard to explain, but i am sure someone here knows what i mean. A little more abstract of a design in a casino direction.

Maybe something the design of the River Rock building (wood pillars, triangular/slanted roofs, etc.)...

...slot machines could be an interesting feature...
