This is very true Future Mayor, I have seen it myself in Los Angeles. Also, key to this working well is an excellent property management team, and an informed property owner. Not only can a responsible manager have a huge impact on your immediate property, but the entire neighborhood and surrounding owners/property managers can be significantly affected for the positive. I have met myself with several large property owners in L.A. in my neighborhood. I basically conveyed to them that their managers were not living up to what we expected of their property, and that they as owners had the right to demand more of their managers. It was amazing how quickly things changed for the better.

This seems more to be an issue of renters vs. owner occupied housing.
Regardless of income group, people who own their homes are always going to take better care of them than a renter would. Even the nicest rental properties are going to be dumpy compared to a similar condominium; the occupants have no real incentive to maintain the property if they don't own it.

Thats true ark to some extent, especially with the units themselves. Although, in LA, reference checks have become very important in a lot of the rental market. If a renter does not have high marks when it comes to a variety of reasons, they are passed by. Ofcourse, this only works with properties and areas that are in high demand.

Right now my younger Brother and soon to be wife as looking for a apartment. I was talking to him last night and he was telling me that the lowest price he can find right now is a one-bedroom for $700.00. That's just crazy. But that's what you are going to get down in the south end of the valley. I told him to look more North I bet you could find places a little bit cheaper. However my brother thinks that anywhere North of 9000 S. is trashy and ghetto. I don't agree with that since my wife and I live at the apartments on 7000 South and redwood. They are not that bad. We pay about $570.00 per month on our one-bedroom. I told him there are lots of nice places up here.

Tell him to look at the condo's behind the walmart on 9th East and van winkle. A buddy of mine lived there and rent was about $550 for a nice little community.

I can find him a swell deal out my way ... just off the 201 freeway at about 3200 West. You know, right where the Maverick was robbed two nights back.

Ok while this may be streching it a little on a development thread I think I can make it work.

So as I was searching google for picture of my future office, (City and County Building) I came across pictures from the 2002 Olympics. For those of you old not old enough to remember the events and the activity that occured downtown during the Olympics it was simply amazing. Having recently divorced my friends and I spent nearly ever night downtown and it was an amazing experience.

Salt Lake 2002 was hailed as the most successful Winter Olympic Games in history, despite the bid scandal. It actualy made a profit and honestly I think it set a new standard for how the Olympics should be hosted. I think that a large part of the reason that Salt Lake City is experience the building boom that it is, is due in part to the Winter Games.

There is talk that there is a group of individuals that is looking to bid for the 2022 Winter Games to bring them back to Salt Lake City. I could see that with the continued growth of the city and region that it could be a real possibility. Imagine the comparisions that would be made on tv regarding SLC in 2002 and SLC in 2022. Imagine the difference in the skyline and the overall maturing of the city.

I am all for the 2022 Games, plus if I were to run and win office in 2019 that would make me Mayor for the Games, how cool would that be. Can you imagine the building boom would get yet again just prior to the games, just like we did last time.

Downtown was truely amazing. The other remarkable thing Future Mayor was how well they handled security despite it being mere months after 9/11. There was so much paranoia in the air back then I wonder if other cities would've canceled all the events downtown. But SLC was great - and the security line was shorter than the airport. I remember parking at the Fairgrounds and riding an old bus from Virginia and it dropped us off under the North Temple viaduct. Worked pretty slick.

Does anyone remember the "riot" they had at the Budweiser tent?

I remember the riot, I was standing at the intersection of 200 S and Main when people starting spilling out into the street from the tent at the Gallivan Center. One idiot friend of mine was like "Dude lets throw some beer bottles!" Logic prevailed and we left the area.

It would be freakin awesome to get the Olympics again. I still hear that Salt Lake's was by far the best The Winter ones are great but imagine getting a summer one too. It would be much harder cause we would be competing with cities such as Berlin, Paris etc.. But both of them would be sweet.

If not a winter one is just as good.

One problem I can see is, where would they put all the athletes? I mean I live in the U of U dorms now, where they were. They can just kick us all out, they would have to build new ones somewhere. Probably on the west side

Better yet, build a new residential skyscraper downtown, have it done but the Olympics and then they can live there. Then after its over it can be condos or apartments. Its a win win situation and for us

Maybe this would actually get them to MOVE on these proposed Trax lines instead of being dumb about them

You better all remember in 2019 that I brought this up in the forum so you better vote for me because I want to be Mayor during the Olympics.

I will do my best to develop a couple of highrise residential towers (40+) once we get the bid and work with the USOC to make them athlete housing during the games, and a mix of market rate and low/mod apartments or condos after the games.

Hopefuly I will run into an insane amount of money before then and can build the 50story building I keep dreaming about.

That would be cool to have the olympics game back here in SLC. I was here for the 2002 games, but I just came back from my mission the week before so I had no money so I couldn't go to any of the games. LOL. But I remember driving around downtown. I have never seen the city so alive. It was awesome.

woohoo! we have two towers on the highrise construction list! however, there is a mistake, they have it as CCC tower 2 at 415 ft instead of CCC tower 1 at 370 and of course 222 S. main is there at the correct 316 ft. Right now SLC has 2 of the 7 highrises began in 2008, pretty cool.
