I understand why you are saying that because Del Ave is looked at as the Touristy area, however with projects like Arthaus being constructed on S Broad this pushes the "Center city" vibe down Broad and allowing more high end buildings, and attractions to be built.

There are already pretty ambitious plans for Penn’s Landing that are still years away. The area is still rather sleepy and cut off from the rest of the city by I-95. This site makes sense in terms of its relative proximity to Broad St attractions/entertainment, Rittenhouse and the business district in my opinion.

Wait wait wait, so your saying we could have this HUGE thing going up at the same time as other projects like the one at broad and Washington, and the several U-City towers, on top of the redevelopment in SoNo and the 500-600ft towers in Rittenhouse and an unknown 500+ tower? If all ofthese go up at once the number of cranes we would see could be ridiculous.

There's no doubt in my mind that there will be one, if not two hotels incorporated into Durst's Penn's Landing project.

you're surprised that a hip hotel on the city's main thoroughfare in the middle of the 5th largest city in the country where most people live in work isn't a good fit? but instead an ancillary location off a highway ramp where nobody lives is?

It depends on how you look at it and if a hotel is going for waterfront views, near some attractions, easier to get to (comparatively speaking and with driving in mind), etc., what ScreamShatter says makes sense in that context.

Hmmm, located on Broad Street; tied to South Street and a strong presence there. I'm guessing about 35 floors possibly. Fits the other towers and with the Theaters on the Avenue of the Arts; this has great promise; this can really change South Broad Street.

I don’t think anyone is saying a hotel shouldn’t be built at Penn’s Landing. It’s just that it isn’t the “center of gravity” of the city. If this project was a few blocks lower around Wash Ave, yes, I’d probably be surprised, but this site is very much in the heart of Center City especially with everything going up around it. It’s a stone’s throw from Rittenhouse, the Kimmel Center, theaters, nightlife etc.

Right, and I am not saying that it's a bad location and it makes a lot of sense but I don't think that a Penn's Landing site would necessarily be a bad/wrong idea for them either. And the byproduct there may be nice spark for some more activity in that area vs an area that already isn't hurting for activity.

CHOP plans nearly $3.5B in capital projects by 2028

We have a lot happening here in our Philadelphia campus. We just are in the process of opening a building called the Hub for Clinical Collaboration. That is a 17-story building that's 560,000 square feet. We're also in the process of doing all the pre-work for a new patient tower, which is a 1.3 million square foot building that will open in 2028, and a new, 17-story research building next door to our Roberts Center for Clinical Pediatric Research. We're building a services and logistics center right outside of West Philadelphia. We're also building two inpatient behavioral health units and a new behavioral health outpatient center. We have a just under $3.5 billion building projects budget that will create lots of stimulation for the economy between now and 2028.

1.3 million sq ft? That building has got to be pretty big then. One Vanderbilt in NYC is like 1.7 million sq ft if I recall correctly so hopefully that means a pretty tall skyscraper.

Unlikely. The Pavilion at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is 17 stories and 1.5M sq. I'd guess this new building will be 300'-400'.
