Actually probably the best skyline shot of Kitchener ever.

^ Four impressively dense CBDs for a total population of only ~13 million.

Lots of Calgary skyline shots don't really illustrate the mid-rise density of the Beltline and other communities south of the Commercial Core, but this one really shows it off well.

Without knocking Calgary, looking at all that density, it seems like there should be a stronger street vibe along 17th ave. 12 ave looks like a street where there could be a lot of activity, but it's more of a residential street. It's surprising considering the younger demographic that lives in the Beltline.

17th ave actually has a very strong street vibe.....especially considering the downtown core/Beltline/Mission area has a population of around 45,000, and 17th isn't the only retail corridor.

17th ave also has to compete with other the corridors in the area. (12th ave isn't really a retail corridor, although it does have some)
10th ave
11th ave
8th street
1st street SW
4th street
Stephen Ave.

Aside from that I don't know how much stronger a street vibe you would want.....many days 17th ave is busy to the point where you can't take a leisurely stroll down it because it's just too busy.

What I find really interesting about the Calgary shot is how much been added to the core in in short period of time. 72 buildings have been built or are currently u/c in the Commercial Core/Beltline in the last ten years. 12 more highrises are u/c right now and will be added to this shot by the end of 2013.

Give it time. These places and streets will all situate themselves properly as the city grows over time. For now we have a bunch of very distinct neighborhoods stating to emerge and you can have a good time in any of them on any given weekend. You dont have to go to the same street over and over which is nice.

We need a shot of Edmonton to compliment this set!

17th is pretty good, not sure how much busier you want it. I think it's about as busy as Robson or Granville, just not as long as either.

Calgary is still a relatively small city where we are just starting to embrace the urban environment, things are getting better every year, but we aren't quite there yet.
