The composting pilot starts October 2nd for 4000 homes, really looking forward to seeing how this goes. You can see the details here.

Residents will be getting a green compost bin, slightly smaller than current garbage and recycling bins, along with a kitchen size one to transport. Of note for me, I'd like to see the size of garbage bins shrink with this – I don't think they will need to be that big once we have composting, and it encourages taking recycling/composting seriously.

In my house of three late 20s guys, we usually have one or at most two small white kitchen size garbage bags a week, while we pretty much completely fill our recycling every week. Would be interesting to see the city switch current garbage bins to compost, and hand out new smaller garbage bins.

One thing that seems ridiculous though is that the guidelines say you can't put compostable food containers and cutlery in the bins, which is ridiculous. This needs to be as simple as possible or people won't do it. Also seems odd they need two years to assess this before making a decision on going forward. So it could be three years before we have it city wide?

Sorry not sure where else to post this and haven’t seen any news anywhere - anyone know what happened to 70 garry st last night?? Was at my friends who lives right near there and entire building was apparently evacuated at some point last night (early Tuesday morning oct 20)and now seems like a bunch of crews in there putting new gear in ? Flooding ?

I never knew ArcGIS had an interactive map site. I used ArcGIS a lot for work up to about 2007 and never since. I wonder how similar it is now.

major power outage causing loss of heat to building. It apparently lost both primary and secondary systems due to water damage in the building

^ Speaking of that building, I recall a couple of years ago there was a proposal and maybe even renderings for the site immediately to the south (current surface parking lot). Some kind of highrise residential IIRC? Anyone know whatever happened to that?

Seemed to me like a reasonably marketable spot in a bit of a downtown residential cluster and close to the Riverwalk, The Forks, etc.

Google Earth was updated this morning with the same image, April 21, 2020. The people at Google are watching this board. Proabably.

bomberjet getting shit done! PTH 59 bridge over the floodway. Now Google updating images. Just let me know what you need, and I'll get it done haha

I noticed recently, sometime this summer, Google had updated Maps to include new roads in new subdivisions. So was wondering if they'd be updating the images soon. (They'd have no way to update the map without recent sat photos). I've been checking ArcGIS as well for new photos. And noticed they just did the update recently. So I'm guessing those images became publicly available or something.

The images are from Maxar, which used to be Canadian but became American to be allowed entry into US government work. Le sigh..

Feel bad for the folks who live there that would be a hell of a thing to go through. Fortunately sounds seems like no damage to the units themselves.

No idea what happened to those plans but do recall hearing a bit about them at least in passing on this board. I have no idea who officially owns that parking lot - I never see anyone monitoring it and I’ve sometimes used it for free parking since I can’t recall seeing any kind of indicator for who is authorized to park there (possible I’ve totally overlooked some signage)

Just looking at maps today. Their is such a huge potential for Main St. South of Poratge. Build the transit line and make some real TOD happen. Would be amazing to see Main lines with mid to high rises along the track.

Correct - though looks like article was updated to the correct building name.
I think the timeline was also partially wrong too. (a tonne of work was being done on the building at least as early as 6:00PM Tuesday and my friend said it had started being evacuated on Tuesday at 6 or 7 AM at least)

I would love to see south Main and the surface lots around Westbrook filled with buildings like these in Oslo.
