I am just in the process of buying my first place. I only considered because for once interest rates and prices are low together making my mortgage payments $100 more than my rent.

Looks good - but it should have been completed prior to the olympics.

i'm sure people on this forum will still be saying that about projects years from now. yes, everything should have been completed before the olympics, even when that was not financially or feasibly possible... just because all that matters is how things look, not whether or not plans were in gear, people were busy doing other things, or the financial backing was in place.

This may have been talked about before, but does anyone know whats going on at the old BC Electric Building on Nelson and Burrard? I went by it today and saw yellow fencing around it, like the type you see when something has been closed down and is ready for the wrecking ball (yes, I'm aware its a heritage building and won't get wrecked).

Just curious... why must EVERY project be finished before the olympics?
If its all for the sake of optics, then isn't it a good thing to show that other non-olympic yet good projects are 'up and coming' for Vancouver, and more importantly, we're not burning major money trying to finish everything "In time..."

Just IMHO...

it is indeed a careful balance of optics/venues/places to visit versus burning through money just to get it done but IMO you should be pushing to have most if not everything done and then sit back and relish in the moment and be able to present the city and ALL of its special places to the world.

Looks great. I thought we couldn't cut down a single tree for anything in Stanley Park though?

PS Those two orca designs make me hate the Canucks orca even more. *sigh* What could have been...

The main point of the Aqurium expansion is so they can hold larger events, it's already one of the biggest event venues in the city, I probably attend close to 10 events there a year. They do a great job but need this expansion to cater to larger events.

Some additional info on the proposal by 1201-1215 Bidwell by the best firm in town.
The only downside is this is a Millenium project so don't expect movement until the Olympic village situation is over.
I can't stop looking at this building, it just has something to it.
