What the hell is going on with this project? Wasn't the exterior of this building ready before the Winter Olympics? In 2010?! And I remember soon after the Olympic Village became accessible to the public, there were signs papered over the windows saying there was a restaurant going in.

Great timing with WCFC, Maynards, James, and Pinnacle Living 2 all being occupied by then.

To be fair, the space didn't just sit empty. I don't know how often it was used, but a bunch of events were held there. I personally helped cater a wedding reception there.

Also, I don't think it is unreasonable that a "permanent" occupant has taken awhile in the context of the location and our economy (the last couple of years for restaurants have been good for some and tough for many).

Even Urban Fare and London Drugs took a couple of years to open - until critical mass built up to stem the losses in the early years.

Few things... first... the interior restaurant requirements have never been built out. The building is basically a shell, a great one at that. Second, Mark James Group (Yaletown Brewing, Brewhouse (Whistler), Big Ridge Brewing, & Flying Beaver) was apparently supposed to be the lessee, but pulled out amidst the post-olympic challenges... as did Urban Fare (at least until they renegotiated their lease terms). Craft Beer Market the signed lessee only committed sometime in September or October, so if they are in fact open in Summer 2013, that's not a bad timetable, especially given the size of the space!

I don't know Calgary neighbourhoods very well, but my impression is that the Calgary location is much closer to the Calgary bar/club scene than Olympic Village is to Granville. That may make a big difference.

ONNI is moving forward with Block 100 ... aka Burger King on Main @ 1st.

the sales center will be in the ex LIDO sales center right beside the LIDO construction site.

i'm really getting freaked out by the low podium trend emerging in this area - if i were archon of vancouver married to a low fsr, i'd rather see consistent midrise with interior courts than intermittent high rise with 2 story podia, forecourts and setbacks sod with grass. it's like sim city, where a computer just endlessly reproduces the same forms.

I'll bet it's a function of feedback from potential purchasers that resulted in poor sales at Olympic Village - i.e. lack of views at quadrangle midrises with courtyards.

I assume there will be glass behind those balcony enclosures - I could see a small child leaping through the hoops...

haha. simcity. lol.

sadly, this may be true. vancouver needs to stop designing condo's and apartments that all look the same. omg. it's getting ridiculously boring and uninspiring. surely, an up-and-coming city like vancouver can be more creative in it's architectural designs. and worse yet, people continue to buy buildings. it's almost as if the public approves of these boring structures. learn from NY's buildings. they have, architecturally, something to offer to vancouver, in my opinion. their buildings have class, character, and inspiration.

I've heard that phase 1 will be ready around March/April.

the mind reels taking stock of everything built and considering everything still in the pipes. aside from toronto, there's almost certainly not another city in north america that has seen anything like the change vancouver has over the past decade. it's truly astonish.
