Call me whatever you want, but there are others on here and in the city that feel the same way. This project is ugly.
Every project to you is ugly or unnecessary so far. Your incredibly negative over everything, and your input on here isn't valued by anyone. Plus it's annoying to be honest. By now I think everyone on here knows you won't be satisfied by anything anyways. There's no point in you even putting your opinions in. Others don't like it too but they move on. Why not you ? Our saskatoon threads were awesome until you showed up. I can make it go back but maybe you'd like to stay for maybe, good reasons?

Baydo towers

Hello from out west. As a fan of Saskatoon it is exciting to see the developments taking shape. River Landing is such a great addition. Baydo towers, while perhaps not outstanding in the world of design, will fit into the rest of the neighborhood nicely and be a great addition. If it were being built on the riverbank, different discussion as it becomes a part of the city theme. I'd also like to say its nice to read a thread with a number of knowledgeable people when it comes to construction methods. Keep it up Saskatoon!

As long as he isn't insulting anyone. It shouldn't matter if someone feels offended because they don't share his opinion on a project or that his opinion is the least popular. He has every right to post.

My thoughts likewise, I just stubbled upon this section of the subforums after looking at buildings in Saskatoon like the former CN building at Midtown Plaza from the main Canada forum pages.

Something that does seem off is the height of buildings listed in the Saskatoon Diagrams of buildings in Skyscraperpage.com

Some of the taller buildings or what I thought was the tallest buildings in Saskatoon don't match the height listed on other websites.

for example from Saskatoon housing initiative:
https://www.shipweb.ca/skys-the-limi...iction-lifted/

"Saskatoon’s (second) tallest building is the 79.2-metre La Renaissance Apartments. The second (third) tallest building in the city is Hallmark Place, standing at 78.8 metres. The tallest building in Regina is the 20-storey Mosaic Potash Tower, which is 84.5 metres high."

Where in Skyscraper Page forum do you find the diagrams you reference? I think that the buildings you noted (Renaissance, Halmark and Mosaic) are noted correctly in your post. The new tallest building in SK is Nutrien Tower. I think it’s about 88.5m - I’ve posted the exact height before but can’t recall it and don’t want to search for it right now.

You can check the diagrams pages, or the database pages itself. The database page doesn't list the heights outside of floors though, but if it has a diagram you can get to the data. Skyscraperpage is only as good as the people that request updates to listed heights. It really is just crowdsourced for the most part. If you see something wrong. Then make a request to get it updated.

You can do those in the Building Requests & Database Corrections section. People will look at it and get it done if it needs to be.

Talk about street animation! I wonder if that top floor is a penthouse or some amenities like their gym… highest gym In Saskatoon if so!

Maybe it's just me, but I see very little significant difference in the current renderings on Baydo's website and the ones posted on page one of this thread. Were the interior renders just added?

roryn1, do you have any new photos to keep us updated?

Hi! Longtime lurker. I didn't feel the renders the same*. I have not seen a view looking north or riverside before. The interior renders seem new. There are also new colours. Does a new render mean a different design or architecture?
*but updated, no?

I think they’re installing the base of a 2nd crane on the original slab now.. will post a pic in a few more days when whatever they’re installing is more viewable from my angle.

Lots more dirt removed on the 25th side, lots of concrete being poured, the cold weather seems to be moving things faster.

Three cranes downtown wow!

These towers look ever so slightly less revolting in these most recent renderings. I suppose that's good. Something as simple as larger windows would dramatically improve the drab exterior.. but overall.. slightly better than the first renders, so not all is lost.

Something as simple as the 'cedar plank' dividing panel on the balconies at least adds some minimal interest and warmth to building. It will never win an architectural award, but will still be a decent enough addition to improving downtown density.

I just struggle to believe that the amount of "rental" construction happening in the city currently can actually be absorbed. Maybe there is something I don't know...

What happened to the discussion about the height being drastically reduced as a result of persistent shoring issues? It seems these renderings have been updated, which would hopefully indicate the height has not been changed?

The exterior brick at street-level gives this a considerably better overall appearance, IMO. I would love to see some updated photos.

Assuming the scale of this project has not changed, we have not been giving this project the appreciation that it deserves for its scale in our small city.

Onwards.

I’ll post a update I’m a few days when I’m back. Lots of actual noticeable action happening now as concrete is getting poured daily.

Our condo building is mostly rentals and is completely full - we’ve also increased condo fees by +25% and the buying power of people has drastically increased (it was a lot of social housing the last few years and now it’s more students and families - school bus service on 5th Ave has literally exploded).

BHP’s mine should produce a good sized boom for the city starting basically now, construction of towers now will reap the benefits in the coming few years of prosperity, before another down cycle in maybe five years… this project huge for our downtown. I’ll never be able to afford No 1 River Landing but I could see myself moving to these Baydo Towers.

I’d agree that there has been a lot of criticism for such a major project, mostly focused on the architectural merit of the buildings. There are some of us, though, that are both confused and entertained (in equal parts) by the methods and pace of construction of the project. It’s been a very interesting build to follow.

The mine site is an hour and a half from the city. Like Lanigan, it will employ a few people from the city. Most on site workers will be from nearby rural areas though.

Also, my guess is that the few BHP office workers in the city very likely won't want to live in this skid mark.

I agree roryn1, the BHP mine will be a good thing, hope there will be more office workers so a new building can be started. The maintenance, fabrication and supply sectors in the city will probably reap the most benefits which would in turn add for the need for new rental. The towers could be coming at the right time. With the new mining projects up north and the start of rare earth minerals being refined in Saskatoon this could be the start of something good.

Obviously you have never seen the parade of cars on highway 16 headed to the Lanigan mine from Saskatoon or vice versa. I attended Clavet high school, and getting onto the highway before or after a shift change was impossible because of the number of cars.

I also had a friend who was an engineer at the mine. Since the engineers work four 10-hour days instead of a seven day work week, he lived in Saskatoon but rented a spare room closer to the mine that he slept in between shifts.
