New Morgan Lewis tower on time, on budget but with some tweaks to the interior

More than a year after breaking ground on 2222 Market St., a new $200 million Center City headquarters for Morgan Lewis, the building marked its topping off and provided enough time for the law firm to make some adjustments to its interior design to reflect the new normal of office work.

The firm did not undertake a wholesale revamp of the 305,000-square-foot building as a result of the pandemic but tweaked the office space to take into account some aspects of how employees are currently working and are likely to in the future. For example, the 19-story headquarters will now have remote hearing rooms outfitted with specific technology to accommodate seamless interactions for virtual court proceedings between attorneys and their clients.

Dedicated Zoom rooms will also be incorporated into the new office space. “What we really want to do is if someone is working remotely and someone is in the office, we want them to feel connected and valued,” said Sarah E. Bouchard, managing partner of the firm’s Philadelphia office.

The firm also decided to have some floors designed as coworking space to accommodate visitors from other Morgan Lewis offices who need a touch down spot as well as Philadelphia employees who would rather work in that type of environment rather than in an office.

The building was also designed with outdoor spaces that can also serve as work areas. The idea is to providing employees with options.

Morgan Lewis is expected to move in late next year.

I know theres that 300Ft+ tower proposed near the Murano, haven't heard anything on that in a while but, if wecan get at least I 400 footer on part of those lots id be so happy, the area could be and should be filled with towers at least 300ft in height

282 Feet. We’ve been over this.

The CDR packet literally says “Building Height: 282’”.

The 318’ comes from the 36’ above sea level that the building sits on. From the sidewalk to the topmost part of the building, it is 282’. I really don’t understand where this confusion stems from.

I really like this design but it is to short; if it were 500'-1000' tall it would have a strong impact on the skyline but at the height it is it reminds me of the old location of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange at 1900 Market Street; a great design yet due to its height it is easy to overlook as years go by. If we can have a strong and tall tower at 22nd and Market it it would help this tower continue to be noticed in years to come especially if a new tower which could on day appear would reflect this tower.

I once thought that we need something taller here, but after just walking around the building I'm pleased with the size and mass. This thing is pretty big once you trek around it

^^ it is a big building, we don't really realize it because its only a few blocks away from the much taller trophy towers, I do agree I wish it were taller. But looking at how many surface/underutilized lots there are here, near china town, and other places right around center city, I'm happy waiting for another 500+ footer anywhere near here, tbh anything that adds to the skyline on any of the CC surface lots is a win to me
