No, I think he's talking about the proposal for a tower on the church property on Richards. That was a couple years or so ago. I remember I went and took some pics in the alley to try to get a sense of how close the new tower might be to the office tower.

Here's a link to officedweller's post from almost three and a half years ago (re: the proposed tower behind the Holy Rosary Cathedral).

Looks like that is back on!

A heritage and architectural gem in Downtown Vancouver is up for retrofits.

Plans are being drawn to upgrade the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary to modern earthquake standards, and conserve the 119-year-old church.

To finance the project, a new 23-storey commercial tower is proposed at a portion of the church property at the intersection of Richards and Dunsmuir streets.

Property developer Wall Financial Corp. is named as an applicant in the project...

That church is great, perfect example of faux historicism!!!

And the tower is no commercial, that makes sense

How different this view will be once The Post and 410 W.Georgia are completed and if the Holy Rosary tower goes ahead!

Construction Updates
February 15, 2019 - For the next two weeks:
  • Demolition activity on the top three floors is complete.
  • We are removing the sidewalk protection scaffolding on Homer and Hamilton Streets.
  • Demolition activities will move inside the building by the end of February; however, due to openings in the roof, neighbours can still expect to hear construction noise.
  • Nineteen of 120 footings have been replaced to date.
  • The intersection at Homer Street and West Georgia will be disrupted from February 23 to March 15 for preparation of the steam line that will supply the mechanical plant used to heat the building.
  • Homer Street between West Georgia and Dunsmuir will be closed on March 2 and 3 for hoisting crane materials.
  • Hamilton Street will be closed from March 15 at 4 p.m. to March 17 at 8 p.m. to install the first construction crane on top of the building.
  • All activities are executed within the parameters of the City of Vancouver’s building bylaws

There was some serious heavy lifting equipment occupying Homer Street today. At what point does this become under construction? They're never going to demolish it or dig a hole (bigger than the one that's already there).

I wonder if they are behind schedule.
