this building is unusual in that even in its heyday it still looked run down and dirty. The pale yellow brick probably wasn't a good downtown choice.

The developer has told me they expect to start building in May 2018, around the same time Wm. Thomas will wrap up.

anyone know what's going on with the building beside it? They've ripped off the front sign..

you can still see the imprints of what looks like "Arliss shoes" and "clothing" underneath it - neat

also the alumininum and glass fronts always just painfully remind me of the 80s hehe.. so.. utilitarian..

^^^ this is great, hope they have some new renders and a timeline. Would be awesome if they announced CHCH as anchor retail tenant

Yeah that would be great if CHCH was based out of there and did Morning Live right in front of the street, but they'll probably end up somewhere stupid (well at least to me).

The problem with CHCH moving in there, and I hope I am wrong, is that they cannot move out of their present location until the build is complete. That would be at least 2 years after the first shovel is in the ground. The William Thomas Residence started around March 2016 and will not be ready for occupancy until next spring. With construction starting end of 18 beginning of 19, with time for moving CHCH out of their present location then demolition, that would mean they could not start Television City until mid to late 2020 early 2021.

It would be great to have CHCH downtown, but I fear that they will move their production facilities to Toronto where Channel Zero has facilities and have only a satellite office to write the stories and transmit them to Toronto. They do a lot of their work out of truck now anyway. I would love to see Channel Zero move everything to Hamilton to a new CHCH facility in the core.

100% CHCH will move to Channel Zero in T.O and work remotely via a truck/broadcast box. No way they would sign a new lease anywhere in Hamilton. The amount of broadcast infrastructure they would need to worry about moving/setting up would mean staggering costs.

I also don't see a viable location at the King/Hughson street location to house their satellite dishes/antennae other than on top of one of the condo buildings.

has anyone on this board actually tuned into CH anytime in the last decade??
It's probably been 15+ years since I last saw any of their programming. I'd rather have a modern, vibrant business locating in the base of this condo. Not a 1950's business that's dying and does nothing for street life.

As one of the few with cable still, I have. Their newscast is absolutely laughable. Completely unprofessional, and hard to watch. They have a decent line up of shows, however. I think their days as a network are numbered.

Perhaps not as relevant in these streaming days, but having some presence in downtown I think would be wise.... perhaps the other King and Hughson corner with Effort Trust redevelopment.... anyways on to the new renders!

Here's a Spec story running on their facebook feed right now. https://www.thespec.com/news-story/7...g-and-hughson/

It looks like they are planning two towers 35 - 40 stories.

Nice to see King finally getting a major development. This will do a lot for the area.

I dunno if I like the new podium or podiums I should say. Seems like there's two or three different designs and doesn't seem airy, the glass and brick ratio seems off. Need more glass.

I like the black one the most, keep that one but use it all the way. Keep it cohesive.

They seem to be trying to break up the streetwall on purpose, though I don't care for the brown bricked western section (looks a little too "institutional" for my tastes).

Perhaps we'll see a difference in tower heights again though.

So... they're not going to be replicating the Kresge building? I mean, as long as they do something similar to what it proposed in that picture, hopefully a bit more tastefully I'm fine with that. The two storey Kresge building was a bit low-rise for Gore anyway in my mind. I understand the historical significance. But if they can do a tastefully done podium that fits in with the rest of the 19th and early 20th century architecture, go right for it.

Though I thought they were originally doing 25 and 34 or something then brought both to 30? Now they're proposing 35 and 40?
