Better than a head-hanger like 1919 Market, eh?

I'm just not ready to hate on this one, or call it "Soviet." Park Towne Place - now that's Soviet. I'm reserving judgment until this one is finished. So far, it looks better than 38th & Chestnut to me.

It better. Student apartments vs. so called hi end condos by the river. I think that with Dranoff the bar has been set pretty low, so anything better then the pink wonder land is just automatically given a certain amount of praise.

I'm glad that this is his best offering to date, he's going in the right direction. My hope is that the new owners of the condos facing the river will take it upon themselves to somehow hid the 20 floors of white boring panels the architect has given the public. You know, some nice plants, some wall hangings, maybe some W. Philly 5 color graffiti, just something to jazz it up

Are we sure those hideous white panels are the final appearance without the owners doing something? They look like shit. The worst part of this building. I cannot imagine anyone involved in finalizing the plans could not have figured out something better without any appreciable added cost. Otherwise, I don't really like other aspects of the non-glass skin/cladding, but it's not a bad building. Just not great. Great that it EXISTS and hopefully a harbinger of other good things to come in this area.

If it is he's moving pretty slowly. EXIF data shows this was an 8 second exposure. ISO 400 and f9 for anyone wondering without having to look it up.

June 1st:

See, this is what I was talking about earlier - the hideous white panels everyone is griping about are barely part of the composition from the major thoroughfares. The level of translucency from this angle makes the glass sparkle - and the tint of aquamarine with grass in the foreground is pretty cool. Sure, I'd love it were it 44 floors, but I think the visuals will be fine when this is finished.

I think the north face is ok, nothing that special, but nothing wrong with it. My worries have always been the south and western faces. I think the south face in particular is looking less and less attractive as it grows.

But I do think the height is good. Normally like you I'd like to see more, but in this case I think it fits in.

Finally got to drive up the Schulykill to take in the view. The skyline looks great, including this building. However, I have to agree with the white panel observations. They look terrible and really clash with the higher quality glass portions.
